What's with the printer companies? I mean I get the message: your printer cartridge is empty, replace it immediately. There's little red X on the icon of black ink, but I'm still printing documents perfectly fine. I even removed color cartridge to be sure. It says it's empty but it really isn't!

Greedy mofos! They make software that will say that you don't have ink, so that you'll buy a new one even if it's not necessary! Goddamned capitalist bastards...

Canon? Anyway be thankful that it's still printing because the first gen smart cartridges used to stop printing if you refilled them with a kit or put in a cartridge without the chip.

Lexmark actually. The thing is, that I have replaced one already because I thought it's empty, and I could have printed tons of stuff...

Its probably low on ink and instead of saying "Your printer ink cartridge is low on ink" or "You have X amount of prints available before your ink cartridge is empty".....they pull that shit to sell more and gouge people for their money.

Hence the reason I RARELY print anything.

My girl bought a printer for my house (for my other comp) that she uses and is constantly replacing her ink cartridges.

I've only replaced mine once and I've had my printer for a year or maybe a little more than a year.

Get an Espon, that way you can buy 'copy' cartridges or better still do as I have done and invest in a continuous ink system. This really saves getting ripped off by these greedy scumbags.

I saw today on ebay that my cartridge cost 8$... FUCK! I gave like 20€!!! Fuck!!

I only bought this printer because it's aio, and has great scanning speed/quality plus duplex. I tried to find a decent duplex laser but all I found was HP which cost like +300€. And I bought mine for a little more than 100€

so is epson the only good brand for using continuous ink systems or replica cartridges? (coz i'm still deciding on which printer to buy and this would be a big factor)

Here you can read about tricks printer companies use regarding ink cartridges (I take it with a grain of salt) :

http://www.tomsguide.com/us/ink-cartridge-solar-gadgets,review-1325.html

And the advice from page 6 :

Quote:
“The only brand of printers we recommend to consumers is Canon,” says Voce, “because they have different color cartridges. This is wonderful because if you run out of red, that’s all you have to bring in. And the cartridges are clear. You can actually look into the ink chamber and see if you’re out. Plus they’re very simple, so there’s nothing to break. You can refill them 20 times whereas your HP may be only three or four.”
