So...in other news: Beamdog lost some, how should i call them..."employees" lately. namely Mad Bee, Dee Pennyway, Andrew Foley and Amber Scott. Guess that Siege of Dragonspear didn't work too well, nor the decision to bundle the original BG1/2 and IWD1 with the Enhanced Editions on GOG and in other places.
Still waiting for their bankrupcy. They won't be missed.

I count myself lucky. Back in the day when Bg was new i was too young and dumb to understand the combat system (armor classes etc etc) so i played it somewhat and stopped playing it. I remember having the 4cd boxed version with a map. So basically i never played bg for a long time.
I decided to start out with planescape torment this summer. Almost through that one and Ill continue wth bg1+bg2 and iwd1+2 hopefully.

well why wish their doom if they can potentially redeem themselves and bring out something substantial

Oh dude I envy you! I'd really like to be able to go through all these 4 games with fresh eyes, especially BG2.
I still advise you to mod the SHIT out of those games when you do play them, really enhances the experience.
Personnal super-protip: I always prefered the vanilla + mods games than I ever did those "enhanced edition" ones, but to each it's own I guess :>

I still remember when in 2011 Laidlaw stated that Dragon Age 2 would have provided characters as memorable as BG2's, along with a deeper tactical experience. Then history.. spoke for itself
Enjoy the magnificent ride Lametta, I should re-do it too when I have some* time to dedicate to them

I am with HubU here. I envy lametta for being able to go through with fresh eyes. As for my old statement, so far Beamdog did absolutely nothing to convince me that they can do something properly.
But i wish him to have the fun that i can't have with the Enhanced Editions. I will, personally, stick with the old, modded, releases.

Beamdog very hack studio borderlining on scammers for me. We take an existing game plus it's mods, officially combine them and charge you for it. Then with the only chance we have to make some half decent content, gave us some SJW garbage and shit all over iconic characters, the fans and original creators game.. yeah I rate this studio dean hall, molyneux level bad.

Quote: | Today, Beamdog bids farewell to our Creative Director, David Gaider.
Dave came to Beamdog during interesting times. Since then, he has been teacher, mentor, and friend to many on the team. We’ve seen Dave conjure new worlds we’d love to play in, and spin stories in places already close to our hearts. Someday we will share the fruits of his labour!
Most lasting, Dave has built a creative team that will shape the stories Beamdog tells in the years to come. He has freely shared his incredible wealth of storytelling and narrative design experience with the developers, designers, and artists around him. We’ve all learned a lot from Dave and we hope he picked up a trick or two from us as well.
As fans of Dragon Age, KoTOR, Baldur’s Gate, and many of the other incredible worlds Dave has helped create, we’re excited to find out what’s next (come on, give us a clue Dave!) be it a new game, novel, or whatever else it is you choose to create.
We’ll certainly miss your lunchtime stories. Best of luck Dave! |

I thought that Gaider was right in his environment, but looks that even him wasn't able to stomach long the Beamdog's ways.

Weird, it seemed to me like he only just joined them, but it was actually back in Feb 2016. Almost 2 years to the day. I wonder what happened behind the scenes? Maybe it was because they didn't have the money for the big ticket projects he got used to at Bioware, and the reality of working on indie shovelware proved too much. Where can he go next? You'd think Obsidian, Bethesda, or CDPR would be the only places that are working on the projects of the scale he'd be used to.

Obsidian still seems to be trying to traditional CRPG's although with some adjustments. Bethesda has the money though although I suppose CD Project RED is doing really well at the moment though Cyberpunk is mostly a unknown with little to no details available for now.
InXile is doing Wasteland 3 at the moment I believe but no idea how that will turn out and then there's Larian who managed to recover from Ego Draconis with a return to form with Original Sin. (Though the first game wasn't the smoothest launch but it worked out for them.)
Might be some other studios, there's also indie or joining Fargo in his quest as a human stretch goal on Kickstarter though I don't know if he's still doing that or if he's retired from it.

Yeah Larian or inXile are possibly other options, although I'm not sure how likely either might be.
Someone in the RPGCodex thread about it suggested that he didn't want to leave Edmonton, which was why Beamdog was the natural (only?) choice. That might mean he goes back to Bioware with his tail between his legs, or else maybe he could try going the Avellone route of independent gun-for-hire, working remotely.

And you didn't understand what I asked in the first place. Nowhere in your results it says the exact current patch version for each game. They used to have pinned topic of patch discussion for each game on they forums, but now I can see only "2.5 beta patch" but it doesn't say for what, unless they unified the engine for all games and updating them all concurrently...

Did they start using a common codebase at some point? It says 2.3 but mentions a BG1 and BG2. |
I think they've been working this way from the start. Their original intent, at least, was to use a single engine for every game so they could share improvements across every game. When they made BG2:EE they added a few new features that weren't in BG1:EE, but which they added when updating BG1:EE to a new version. It currently looks like they're testing patch 2.5 for BG1, BG2 and IWD at the same time.
