Phillips’ original “Joker” film reframed the iconic Batman villain into an anti-hero character study about a struggling comedian and part-time clown performer named Arthur Fleck who becomes a folk hero in Gotham City after he lashes out in acts of shocking violence. Moody, dark, and studiously avoiding the action beats typical of superhero cinema, the film was still a massive global blockbuster, grossing over $1 billion worldwide, and earned 12 Oscar nominations, including for best picture, best director for Phillips, and best adapted screenplay for Phillips and Silver. Phoenix won the Oscar for best actor and Hildur Guðnadóttir won for best original score.
Soon after the film’s debut in 2019, Phillips and Silver met with then-Warner Bros. film chief Toby Emmerich about a possible sequel. Since then, Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” survived a pandemic shutdown, and star Robert Pattinson contracting COVID the day after the film restarted, to become one of the first global blockbusters of pandemic era, grossing $770.3 million in global box office returns. Both “Joker” and “The Batman” exist in separate continuities from the other DC adaptations — Reeves even cast Barry Keoghan to play a different version of Joker in a cameo role.
While Phillips did not share any plot details about the new “Joker” movie in his Instagram post, the title does offer some intriguing implications. Translated literally as “shared madness,” folie à deux is a layman’s term for shared delusional disorder. That could refer to how Arthur’s villainy is widely embraced by Gotham City in the first film, but it could also suggest that Phillips’ sequel will bring his own interpretation of Joker’s main (and, really, only) partner in life, crime and madness, Harley Quinn — who has been played in other DC adaptations by Margot Robbie (in live-action) and Kaley Cuoco (in animation). |

It is probably the sort of thing that it would not be out in time for Oscar season or they have some other film they think will be Oscar worthy for the end of 2023 and do not want to have them competing against each other.

So they could technically do like they did with Joker and have her character be someone named different than Harleen Quinzel but the end result will probably end up as Harley Quinn.

it's also been rumored that it's not her and somebody else.
time will tell. could be Sr psychiatrist who gets into the mind of joker, and Harley Quinn is her assistant who ends up dealing with Joker at the end of the movie. who knows?

Meh from me, just my 2 cents. But I am no credible movie goer either so my opinion means fuck all.
I did not enjoy the 2019 one. Felt it was an overly melodramatic forced narrative of framing the bad guy for the watcher to have sympathy for him by painting him as the under dog with mental issues that society ignores. Which IS an ugly truth mirror of our world, but in no way made me want to condone and cheer his 'coming out of the shell' way of reacting to it.
In no part of the movie did I have empathy or sympathy for the joker when he started to rebel against the world. Whatever I had for him in the beginning fell off when he started being no better than the people that he was against (yes yes, he's a villain. but the movie tried to force me to empathize of why he became one).
To me it's not different than a serial killer, that has a backstory of "He was beaten and molested as a child by a drunk father". Yea that sucks dude..really. But you are still just an adult piece of shit, that was beaten and molested as a child by a drunk father. I feel bad for what he did, I do not feel good for you and and condone how you choose to become from it. So your just saying your family has TWO pieces of shit in it now?

I know you want Joker and Harley in a movie, but why don't you want originality in both characters and storytelling? why does it have to be Harley Quinn?

it aint fan speculation, there were some talks back that gaga was front runner for harley, but is common sense given the latest information that she is playing her, sometimes u have to read between the lines and dont expect everything to be spoon fed to u, as for me i dont care who is in the movie, i want a good sequel and idk what the fuck that musical thing will be. i dont really liked margots harley in later movies, i liked her in first ss

I wasn't a huge fan of the original and thought it was overrated as hell, but wtf is the director thinking to make the sequel a musical of all things?

I enjoyed Jokerin much more than Batemon but I'm not sure I need a hyper artsy-fartsy version of it engineered to give another boost to Lady Gaga's Hollyboo's career. We'll see I guess, the suphurrhero circus is so weak that scraping the bottom of the barrel is all that's left at this point.
