I wonder if all this nvidia frame generation and amd upscaling stuff is just using the same technology all these huge television companies are putting into their televisions to avoid old dvd and cable tv content looking dogshit on their 4k and 8k displays

Cause 80% of the content casual people consume will never be 4k or 8k

if i understand it right it all comes down to the same shit, instead of taking a 1080p stream, it make a game render in full hd , and then just upscale it with ai to a higher res, and obviously u get more frames as its running in HD and not 4K

like the fancy 8k tvs are going to need some massive good upscaler for their super expensive tv to not look crap to the buyer when he watches old content

Not the same, but same result: Lower res filtered to higher res and not just using bicubic or nearest neighbor scaling. But totally different ways to do it.

One is a generic catch all that does an 'ok enough' job on general content (TV way), which is far easier to fudge as video content already has a Side effect of not being pixel perfect edges to start with. (why a 720p video chain link fence shot does not look like a 720p games chain link fence..one is generated per pixel, the other is what was captured real world with a physical lens)
The other is scaling, edge detection, and aliasing removal in specific scenery trained on AI to know what to generally look for in that specific 'look' to remove it (Nvidia AI enabled games).
