Anyone tried this game out yet ?
https://store.steampowered.com/app/739630/Phasmophobia/
It's Early Access and I've been playing it and it's definitely a unique game and tons of fun.
You can play with VR or without VR. And both experiences are great.
It got bugs and the graphics aren't the best but it's something fresh.
I've never played a game before when your teammates leave you alone in a room and you actually get more scared when you are left alone. First time I've experienced that in a video game.
It's definitely a little scarier in VR but it's still scary without VR.
I bought it last sunday and there were 300 players playing it then, it went to 16.000 players yesterday.

Really loved the game at first. I still love it, but it's a lot less scary after like 5 hours.

Played a bit with some randos. Not really scary, the most afraid I ever felt in-game was during the tutorial, but it's definitely fun. It just needs a bit more structure I guess. Right now the objectives are all over the place and the tools aren't really well explained.
I guess it didn't help matters that we kept talking on discord instead of using the in-game comms, I bet that made things less scary. Sure it's the same as talking through the radio, but still.

How do you play this with VR? Do you have some sort of steel underpants?!?!

lol
already played 10 hours (over half of that in VR) and still having a blast
it actually has decent gameplay and progression and is really good at creating scary moments despite having other people around
probably helps for me that I play with a friend who's trying to get immersed in the game like me, so we try to take it seriously and it makes it a lot more tense than if I was just running around with randoms completing the mission with cheap tactics from the wiki or whatever.
I think it's important in games like these to not look up mechanics and tips because once you know how it works and it becomes predictable, it stops being scary.
that said, I couldn't play a solo mission in VR I think. it'd be too much for me to handle.
in coop it's just right where it's not super scary ALL the time but it's regularly very scary with some breathing room inbetween.

Maybe its just me, VR while immersive doesn't has the same viceral feedback as reality. While I love VR and play the shit out of it. It's not 'I feel like this is real' Its 'This looks pretty convincing its suppose to look real'. Much like racing in VR I love the SHIT out of that but about to hit a wall, or run into someone doesn't invoke the same reaction I would in real life. Jump scares in VR don't trigger in me the thing it would in real life. (shrug).
I only got about 10 hours in the game from way back: me and a friend in VR, the other 2 friends not.
While its 'spooky' Id say the spooky factor in VR, for me at least, is only about 30% more simply because its 3d and blocks out the environment around me with the headset. But it's not from actual fight or flight response, it's more the more direct interaction with something I still know regardless, is pixels and game engine.
Like me and the friend in VR after getting bored/tired/whatever of some of the repetitive gameplay parts. Was having fun bitching and joking at ghost for fucking with the lights and flashlights, and popping up out of nowhere joking "Poke that asshole in the eye!". So less overwhelming fear, and more a slight 'oogie boogie' startle and "Ok you son of a bitch you are getting on my nerves".
