Do they need like a monthly subscription to work?

If your ride has no Nav - depending on your needs I suggest just buying a nice Double DIN head-unit that's Stereo/DVD/Nav all together. That way, if you care about your ride at least it looks much cleaner and professional. Most come with a HD now that has storage for a ton of songs + uploadable mapping.
But if you need it in multiple cars grab one of the "Stick on windshield here" ones.
OR if you are just asking out of curiosity and don't even need one....

I was just thinking about it cause I wanted one cause I suck horribly at navigating and have no sense of direction. I saw a commercial about it and remember none of my friends knew if you needed a subscription or anything.
So how does it work, you just put in your destination and updates itself to the roads or something?

LoL - Yes, it's a Civic! I had no idea they re-badged them. That's crazy, great info!

Was thinking about getting one, can get one for 900 euro, cheapest in Norway. Reviews say its pretty average, and all you need if you don't use it alot (whatever that means)
TomTom is damn overpriced, thats for sure.

TomTom and Garmin are two brands that have good experience with GPS:es, so I´d personally pick one of those.
Watercooled 5950X | AORUS Master X570 | Asus RTX 3090 TUF Gaming OC | 64Gb RAM | 1Tb 970 Evo Plus + 2Tb 660p | etc etc
