Any thoughts as to why not?. Got another 2Gb ram that could go in (would total 6Gb) if i would install Vista 64.

Of course the tedious bit with installing drivers and apps and what not. But what else would be a drawback?

Actually I think this calls for a poll
and please state why you run what you do.

Cheers guys!.

Only thing i had to do with vista 64 for me using 4gb with it was switch out of using 4 sticks of 1gb to 2 sticks of 2gb Sad now i got 4gb of dominator 1066 ram doing fuck all.. but the 4gb(2 sticks only) of Ozc is working a charm..

My board either A doesnt agree with voltage upping and using the 4 sticks (most recomend u dont and use 2 anyway) or one of my sticks went faulty.. the OS kept saying there was a problem, and when i booted and did the os mem test it showed in the test area that there was a hardware fault.. then on booting to windows i got a pop saying about the memory error, so i thought fuck it ill just buy 2 sticks new.. (aw9d-max board)

other than that x64 vista ultimate here is a nice os, memory management is superb.. I think with 6gb ram you could possibly get away with having no page file as well.. 8 is prob better though..

btw ur poll reads 32 bit and 63 bit lol

if you have 4+GB and a 64 bit processor ( obviously you do ) there's no reason why you shouldn't use Vista 64 , it is way faster than 32bit and performs quite well
you start using the true potential of your hardware
I yet still have to install something that doesn't work because so far everything does , well unless you really miss those 2002 programs

Also using vista x64 with no problems at all. Stable & fast. The only drawback - not many appz have 64bit version, but I think it will change with time. Also - you don't need that much RAM for it, I read it will run just fine with 2gb. Of course, the more the merrier. I'm using 8gb Smile

changed it to 64 =)

and isnt vista64 compatible with 32bit apps? So only drivers should be an issue and since its out so long it actually shouldnt be, right?

Loving Vista x64 here, it's performance is excellent. No compatibility issues whatsoever running any of the latest games or applications.

well, xp can still address 3,5 gigs and for people being short on money with an xp-licence still flying around, why not go xp with even 4gigs. It s always a question of how much you want to pay and what you want to do with it.

hahaha, yeah. I know. But i actually have been using a legit copy of xp for years now. A corp pro no less. And i would be willing to buy vista too, if i would see the need to (updating is much less of a hassle with a non-pirated copy).
Mayb next year =)

Oh yeah, these things are life savers! I used to take fans and stuff into parts and just clean all the small parts, but with these compressed air cans, it's very easy. Shame I discovers them so late (about a year ago)...

I buy the cans also, albeit geebus they do cost like £9 here in maplins.. What I tend to do as well once a mnth is take the unit in a car to the local petrol station and use the high power compressed air lines they can have for like 20p a go... at least you get no water/vapor with the angle you hold the hose at then....

How's it going coxy....

So far all ok...but I had a couple of freezes/BSOD's here. I think it might be one of the RAM sticks that might be fuked.

Luckily I had another pair, so I just swapped the two in the rig with the new ones. Sitting here with the case open at the mo, just doing stuff and checking if it runs stable.

I think I might run Memtest next...or could you guys recommend a better app for that?.

Run memtest for the night and see (not just one pass, let it run the entire night). It could also be the mobo doing shit.

I really suspect the Ram, as this started to happen after I installed the extra 2 gig.
Running 2x2 Gb 1066 Dominators +2x1Gb of the same.

I thought it might have been my OC, but it also happened after I ran the system on stock setting.

I think i will try to get the Memtest pro version and burn a boot disc, that's better no?

Yes, burn to a disk and let it run for a few hours. If it shows no problems, look at the motherboard. You sure you dusted off the memory slots properly before putting the sticks?

Yep, gave the whole board a good wipe over with the air can.
If it happens again I will try to take out the extra 2Gb of ram and see if it crashes. If it does...well then I will start to panic for sure!.

Will just let the PC run for a bit and see what happens. Will run Memtest later. If it happens it's normally like after 10-20 min.

WHAT A FUCKING TRIP THIS DAY HAVE BEEN!!!!

You know what happned after i posted the message above?...Freeze/Crash...tried to boot up again...PSU DEEEEAAAAAD! WTF!

I guess it was that all along. Some of you might know that I bought a PSU from TAGAN maybe 2months ago, NEVER EVER TAGAN again!.

I try to make it short.

I crashed in to my son's room (like a SWAT team that means business), pulled the fracking mouse out of his hand, started to search for PC shops in Frankfurt on his PC (thank God for that PC!)

K&M Elektroniks...CLOSED! (3 a clock Sat) WTF!

ALTECO...calling hot line, took probably 5 min before the woman on the other side could find out that "Sorry, but there are no PSU's in any of our shops in Frankfurt" Twisted Evil

MediaMarkt...again switchboard...waiting. "Sure we have a 600W PSU" me "What make is it" "oh...don't know, there is no name on the box" "me WTF!!!!"

I finally found a shop I did not even knew existed called
ARLT
So I got a Corsair 750W

just installed it (bloody obvious, no Razz).

So there it is, one of the most mad Saturdays in a long time.
Dam am I a PC junkie!. Laughing

Ran a "restore" and now all is ok...but back on 32bit Sad. I wonder...Will give 64bit another go in the morn. It has been a long day and what not...Oh well, at least no crashes any more...
