Well, I've spent about a day trying to get this thing re-flashed. The problems started when I had to put my old VIA card into a new machine with a fresh install of windows xp because windows 7 x64 no longer flashes correctly.

So.. I put the card in, plug it into the xbox dvd drive as I normally do, goto read the device ID thing... and 0x51 error code.. Nothing about this is mentioned in the jungleflash documentation so I'm left moving PCI cards about etc etc.

Still doing the same error code, then out of trial and error figure out that the drivers need installed.. so I goto the VIA site and install the SATA drivers.

oops! it seems you need to use the IDE drivers (despite the card being sata, wtf) ANYWAY I goto uninstall the drivers and you guessed it.. error time! it seems I can't uninstall these drivers using the installer (wtf via)

So I goto manually uninstall it via device manager.. you guessed it.. more errors about needing a type of .sys file. So when you give it the .sys file it needs, it only goes and installs the SATA drivers again! ... What a pain in the arse.

I assume the only way to get these drivers on it now, is to completely hose the system and start again. Crying or Very sad unless of course, there is a way to fix this without having to do that.. heh

Lol, for some reason (most likely the shitty bios) won't dual boot between Windows XP 32bit and Windows 7 64Bit.

sometimes it will depend on the order you install them Wink i had a problem with windows xp & vista ages ago but then i installed them in the other order (cant remember what one) and it worked

If it's a newer machine your mobo's SATA ports should work just fine, why bother with the old VIA card at all?

I don't think you can flash MS-XX drives without them.

Anyway, I've solved this annoying problem. Basically VIA have decided to drop support for the legacy VIA 6421 drivers (Hm, I wonder why haha)

I managed to find the ones I needed here :

http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/Download/ShowDescription.asp?SoftwareGUID=67585CAD-F39E-4934-BF6A-215F8D73F85C&OSID=7A0A1893-F0DA-46D7-BC43-0E946F2B8224&Status=True&Component=VT6421A

Lets compare those drivers to VIA's "new and improved" ones.

Legacy :

[strings]
VIA="VIA Technologies, Inc."
PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3349.DeviceDesc="VIA VT8251 AHCI RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_6287.DeviceDesc="VIA VT8251 AHCI Controller"
PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_0591.DeviceDesc="VIA VT8237A SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3249.DeviceDesc="VIA VT6421 RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3149.DeviceDesc="VIA SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3164.DeviceDesc="VIA VT6410 RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_0581.DeviceDesc="VIA CX700/VX700 RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_7372.DeviceDesc="VIA VT8237S SATA RAID Controller"

The new ones don't have that string in them, something like "VIA Bus Master IDE Controller - 3164" - I wonder why they've dropped support for the old VIA6421 chip...
Wink

Well good to hear you solved it. But I've flashed every single type of drive using my motherboard (ASUS) SATA ports.

Mine uses Intel ICH ports, I've read its very hit and miss. No idea is that's improved or not but I don't care if this VIA SATA thing works Very Happy

Aye, same here. Asus P5K using ICH9 SATA ports - which are compatible with flashing 360 drives. My old Asus board using ICH8 SATA was also compatible.
