I have always enjoyed the movies, despite some of their cheezyness because I love the books.
I am watching "The Stand" right now.

always did like misery and 'it' though... and atually the shinning as well. i think a lot of people hate it, but i always liked it... nicholson always sold it for me.
and the running man... yeah its cheesy, but its arnie so i forgive... i FORGIVE!!

I'd give anything to see a proper Stephen King version of the Running Man. Have you read the book Chiv? It's radically different to the film .. and very, very good. Much like the Stephen King remake of "The Shining" - I'd love him to go back and remake The Running Man as faithful as the book.

No "The Mist"? I think it's one of the best.. "Stand by me" or "The Shining" must the best ones though.. "It" and "The Stand" is quite good too.

Agreed! "Misery" was very well-done too, with excellent performances and great tension  |

"Misery" is one of my favorite Stephen King motion picture adaptions alongside "It" and "The Shawshank Redemption".

Yes, very much so. Kubrick's version was a great horror, a classic, but it was NOT faithful to the book. I much prefer King's version - which was practically identical to the book in every way. It was a lot more indepth, horrifying and poignant, explaining a lot of what was going on, rather than just throwing a family into a hotel and letting them deal with Jack going insane for barely-explained reason.

Isn't the King version a mini-series? It sure is in-depth all right. But sabin come on.. the ending.. it's sooo cheesy! You know what I mean. When the  Spoiler: | dad appears to the kid and says that oh so cute little phrase, and then smiles ever so lovingly. |
It makes me gag just thinking about it.
Sure, Kubrick's version wasn't very faithful to the book, but infidelity trumps rape! 
And he's doing it to himself, so.. auto-rape! 
I guess we'll have to agree to agree that I'm right.

King spent a decade (and more) moaning about how The Shining fucked up his story, especially the ending (and it did, that's not to say its not a good film though) and when he had the chance to make a version himself he went and changed the ending.
From that moment forward I decided that he not only writes overlong books, that are hit and miss (when the payoff works at the end its worth it, but more often than not you end up rolling your eyes) he also speaks a lot of shit.
There is a rule with King's films and TV mini-series, if he had something to do with it either in screenplay or production it will be shit, if he stayed well clear then there is the off chance it may be ok.

I will admit though, I went into it bias because I detested the book.

It's an adaptation of originally danish tv series, not King's own work.

I liked the early stuff, like Firestarter, Carrie, Children of the Corn, Pet Sematary, The Shining (Kubricks version obviously), Stand By Me etc... and yes, even Maximum Overdrive.

I do want to re-read it, but I cant find my copy.
I read it about 7 years ago and just found it dull and over-long, with shed loads of unnecessary padding (although that is a criticism I would level at a lot of King's books)
I do find King's stuff to be vastly over-rated, when he gets it right I can look past the padding, but more often than not the endings fall flat for me, and that was the case with The Stand. I have no issues with a book being 700+ pages and having a slow build up, if the ending is worth it, and I just didnt find The Stand worth it.
By the time I was nearing the end I was just reading it so I could at least say, yeah I have read that, a few times I have got bored half way though with it and then gone back to it, starting again etc..
I will read it again at some point and maybe my opinion will have changed with the years that have passed, but as I can pick the same fault with 70% of his books I doubt it.
