I believe it's an add-on, free if you already own X Superbox, but €9.99/$9.99 otherwise.

Quote:

Egosoft is pleased to announce X3: Albion Prelude, which provides a welcome bridge from the X Universe we know and love to the X Universe that will be experienced in X Rebirth. This new adventure will also feature more than 30 new ships and stations. A new Stock Exchange feature will enable players to speculate in local markets in a bid to increase their wealth. With this will also come tools to monitor and analyse economic developments and progress. Users with high-end machines will also benefit from some improved graphical quality settings. It is important to note that X3: Albion Prelude will NOT feature savegame compatibility with X3: Terran Conflict.

For owners of the X Superbox, X3: Albion Prelude will be available as a free download on Steam, while for owners of X3: Terran Conflict it will be available at the 'add-on' price of €9.99. For players new to the series, X3: Terran Conflict and X3: Albion Prelude will be available for purchase as a bundle. Time your purchase right and you could enjoy substantial discounts in the Steam holiday sale too!

Hint Hint, Wink Wink, eh Egosoft? You sneaky buggers <3 Looks like they've basically just *hinted* at the X bundle being one of the super sales during Christmas. Works for me - I *really* want the Superbox.

It's one of the ONLY games where I often spend my time looking for mods that make the game derpier, hehe. I'm just not a business man, so the economy aspect of the game never really appealed to me. Anything that automates/simplifies the trading/economy part of the game is okay by me grinhurt

I too hate that kind of micro management.
Any mod you recommend?

Too bad the combat in X³ is so boring. Would be an excellent Privateer successor otherwise.

I don't mind the combat in X3 at all. I do wish I had the ability to turn the engines off and pull some of the manuevers that I could in Freelancer. But all in all, I don't mind it.

Well.. In Freelancer you could cut engines completely off and just use directional boost, allowing you to fly through space just rotating. It made it me near unstoppable in the PvP and PvE fights. Also great for avoiding missles (Which you run into alot in X3) as you could cut engines and boost into a solid 180 degree turn. The physics of it are wonky as such a turn would make your brain turn into jelly, but I do miss it. I never found a way to do similar things in X

Umm, you mean MODDED Freelancer - right, bud? Stock FL didn't have Newtonian physics, so once you cut engines you came to a stop. Mods like TNG 1.7+ added Newtonian physics =)

No way man..my stock freelancer you could cut engines and float along.. You had to actually bind the Cut Engines button though, there was one that was similar and it would stop you. The other button would cut it and you would float. I never played any modded freelancer... Well actually I did try rebalance once but it pissed mehoff.

I didn't say it was. I was marvelling at the fact of releasing another X3-based title when Rebirth is so close to release. As for "far" away? Egosoft originally said it was due Q4-2011, now it reads Q1-2012.

Oooooh, I never used the pre-modded cut engines. My apologies, I wasn't aware that was part of stock FL.

No one I played online with seemed to as well.. I guess because it wasn't bound by default. It added ridiculous amounts of control to the ship though, and combat much more easy/fun if you could put up with the constant tapping of cut engines..and monitoring your speed once you put them back on ..and trying not to puke from spinning around so quickly.

That was the only good feature about FL combat though. Aside from that it was the same popamole hold-LMB-and-follow-target-with-mouse crap X³ has. This kind of game needs joystick controls for cool dogfights.

I guess I can agree with that. But after playing X3 for so long..I have to admit I'm only in a fight once every blue moon. And usually then i'm driving some school bus full of ore and just hide behind the nearest base until they go away lol.

You could actually do it with mods..
For X3 there's the mod "Advanced Thruster Control"
Also X:TC had one as a reward from "Deathmatch Arena"

They did work.. but mind you last time I tried either has been years ago.

I really love games like this, sadly they are too far and between. Wish they would have multiplayer in this.

Still hoping for another freelancer.
