All that butter hysteria is just pure bullshit.
ONE type of HORRIBLE tasting butter is almost out, and the news makes it sound like a national tragedy!
For baking we got a fucking awesome margerine, and for bread butter we got another fucking awesome delicious butter.

Even my dad (who is a professional chef) says the butter hysteria is pathetic, since that type of butter is shit for baking/cooking anyways.

I hate you.

Low carb so they fucking stuff themselves with butter? How's that healthy?
Its low on carbs, but has lots of fat. So I agree, it seems really idiotic.

Butter is so overrated to be honest... Razz

+1 Here in Italy (especially in my zone) almost nobody uses it, since we have an exceptional olive oil that is good for everything And it's better for the health, too!

I was actually thinking of buying 100kg of butter (20 packs, 0.5kg each) and sell for 400:- each (they cost like 17:- each) here. But too much hassle to drive through the customs and get caught by the border patrols with 100kg of butter. The customs are specifically looking for butter smugglers now. They caught a russian butter smuggler who carried 90kg.

Hilarious really.

Olive oil is good for making savory dishes. However, using olive oil for certain things isn't quite right. And olive oil can't cope with high temps, all the good stuff is ruined.

But pasta, sauces, salads and a gazillion other things are great with olive oil (i love olive oil).

Mashed potatoes, little milk, some butter + salt = mashed in heaven. And basically all sorts of pastries need butter, can't be made with olive oil. Razz

That's very true, Mediterranean diet wouldn't be the same without olive oil but there are dozens of awesome dishes that basically "require" butter. Cakes and desserts in general, but also a lot of second courses+special sauces Razz

@Inz: hehe I guess it's because you aren't used to it Very Happy. Not to mention that olive's oil quality outside Italy is very very bad :S (except for Spain, Greece and other Mediterranean countries)

I'm assuming you failed to mention olive oil from Croatia out of pure jealousy, right?
