This was my first JRPG, and remains my favourite, so it's good news. Unless they added some of the graphical mods though, there are existing versions that would still be better

This was the game that almost turned me off the RPGs genre entirely. Can't stand jap RPGs.. The have such atrocious writing and dialog, and hands down the worst characters ever. If it wasn't for taking a random chance on the witcher, I'd never have know RPGs could be well written and fun.

Yeah, there are heavily modded FFVII-PC releases out there that offer a far better solution than this does... unless of course you want to pay $10 for some achievements. Hopefully this one is as moddable as the original PC release.

And here I thought the average FF fan found it immensly fun to grind and farm for half a year, five hours a day, to have enough of item xyz to be able to defeat that optional secret special boss with 15 million hp.

I beat Penance (FFX) and Omega (FFVIII) without any grinding, so yeah... beating hidden bosses is immensely fun and rewarding. To be honest, the only creature I've ever struggled against in any FF title is Adamantoise on the Archylte Steppe in FFXIII. That boss wasn't even remotely fun, it was by far the cheapest piece of shit to ever come out of FF and further evidence of how the company sunk to new depths once the real talent quit.

Interesting. I never both with the black versions of those regular bosses in FF X (forgot their name) or Penance. I only read that several people were indeed grinding for months to beat those which is, in my eyes, simply not worth it. Omega on the other hand was easy, as were those in other FF games I played (Ozma in IX, for example). FF X was my last FF though since all JRPGs feel the same to me.

Good luck to them, because if they're clearly not willing to invest time in the game as you claim, max HP/MP and Gil will do fuck all for them when fighting such bosses

It doesn't exactly give you the best materia, summons, chocobos to access otherwise unreachable areas or special weapons. You also won't be inflicting the amount of damage you'd be dealing out on higher levels

Thats correct

The only way to beat those guys is with Knights Of The Round and mimic and a few other skills i dont exactly remember. Without those you can have 9999 hp but you`re still going to get owned pretty quickly Razz. In FF7 that is.

That's not the only way, though it certainly is the quickest. It's quite possible to beat Ruby and Emerald without KotR ... it's just a bit harder grinhurt

Interesting, though one of the sites I browse put up a mod-pack for FF7 instead (Along with FF7 itself.) today so that's probably a better alternative, completed the game ages ago with a friend but from what I remember it was pretty good. Smile

I cant quite remember how i did it in detail, but it involved getting my character´s hp to 7777 which would trigger the lucky 7 effect resulting in every attack dealing 7777 hp dmg, a high number of counterattack materia coupled with this and a certain number of empty materia slots resulted in cloud countering 100 times for 7777 hp damage each after being attacked only once.
suffice to say, both emerald and ruby were dead within a few minutes this way Very Happy

The Lucky 7s stuff was great fun too, the only downside being the lack of control over your characters .. and with enemies as powerful as Emerald/Ruby, the 63 attacks from Lucky7s often isn't enough .. so yeah, it takes a few rounds Very Happy Great stuff though!

Thats possible. Its been a looooog time since i played FF7 and fought Ocean-Ruby. I remember trying to beat them with my most powerful skills (Quadra cut , Omnislash , Neo Bahamut , KOTR without mimic etc) and got absolutely raped dozens of time. Then i found out about the KOTR and mimic combo , destroyed them with it and never looked back. Havent replayed FF7 much after that since i had completed everything so i didn`t knew there was other methods to beat them. Razz

Now a bit off topic : Im not much of a JRPG type anymore but i am hyped for FF 13 Versus. Finally a FF that seems to be mature (blood , dark lead character ect) with an interesting combat system and story (or so it seems from the trailers). And also the return of the OVERHEAD map !!! That alone makes me pretty happy. Personally i was never a big fan of FF making the full transition to 3d. Yeah it was the logical evolution and i understand that but i don`t know why i still prefer the overhead world map system for some reasons. Overhead + dungeons - towns ect in 3D would be the perfect balance for me and it look like this is how FF Versus will be set up. Now if only we could get a release date.... Sad

Absolutely! I've been (im)patiently waiting for FF Versus for a long time now, just as I was waiting for Agito before SE decided to rename it "Final Fantasy Type 0" and release it for the PSP Sad Who knows when the English version will be out Sad

As for Emerald? One of the reasons he's so tough is due to the fact that his Aire Tam Storm attack is based off how much materia your team has equipped, so while you'd think loading up with kick-ass materia would be the best option; it actually goes against you. Clever stuff Very Happy

Have you tried this?

@KC

Why would that be funny? Lots of people don't like FF, lots of people don't like the GENRE the series is part of, so it's not really all that surprising Wink

FFVII is consistently voted as not only the best in the series, but also one of the best (j)RPGs of all time. Want to know something? I disagree Very Happy I've always put games such as FF6/8/10 and non-FF titles such as WildARMS, Terranigma, Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger above it Very Happy You and I can be minorities together Razz

I've played through FF V-X, and a little bit of IV, before I lost interest in JRPGs. VII is in my opinion one of the weakest games of the ones I played, and vastly overrated. Guess it has something to do with being the first (J)RPG for many gamers back then, especially with us Euro-fags who had to mod their SNES and import all the good stuff from the other side of the ocean Sad.
