					| Posted: Sun, 7th Aug 2011 16:13    Post subject: Wireless router @ cable modem. how and which? | |
					| |
					| Hey, so I have a wired cable modem from my cable provider. It has one ethernet output.
I want to surf with my notebook and computer at the same time. So I thought about getting a wireless router with LAN ports. The computer will be connected via LAN cable and the notebook wireless.

Which type of router do I need for that and what would you recommend? Any special setup I have to keep in mind?

*don't want to spend tooooo much on the router either... <50€ possible?*

					| I heard that routher with internal modem won't work and that is the problem here I just want the router to route and not connect to the net. I have three different wireless routers here from telekom and none of them seem to work

					| I would suggest Linksys WRT54GL as well. Drop a DDWRT or Tomato custom firmwares, and you have a pretty amazing capabilities. | |

					| Yeah, you seem to be able to add an ad slot too. Crazy stuff.
And I realized that I don't have USB 3.0 on my motherboard and will get the 1TB USB 2.0 HD

					| Why not just use the phone? Hook it up and find a software that emulates webcam HID? | |

 that

The wrt54g(l)(s) is a good choice.

The cheapest choice is a DIR300 from ebay for ~10€ - works with dd-wrt, too. great as repeater if you need one one day.

					| Wait what? I had such software for my nokia 6630 but there is nothing useful for android as far as I know... Not much need for it when webcams with 720p cost 25€ | |

					| Fucking WRT54GL. Constantly capping my speeds!
this is my result when I attach my cisco directly to my pc.

and with the wrt54gl connected via lan, I have incredible 20mbit/s download speed. Fucking piece of shit. I will install tomato just to give it a last chance and if it doesn't work, I'll go to alternate and grab the next best whatever, because that can't be as shitty as this pos.

					| Updated from firmware 4.30.14 to 4.30.16 and it went from 20 mbit/s to 43mbit/s.
Strangely I always had like 40mbit/s and just recently it dropped. Will also try tomato.
