GoW2 like in Gear of War 2 or as in God of War 2?
Even though they both cast an exciting lead role of white alpha male that slashes their enemies to shreds and pieces in vast and exotic places one is clearly better than the other one.

lol. No seriously N4S Shift is good fun, again totally non sim and very aracde like which is what i like much like Dirt 2 has improved greatly this year. Forza1+2 was good but extremely boring later on in the game, lets hope Forza3 lives up to the hype

Yes, because driving in cockpit view, on Nürnburgring, competing against other cars, folowing a colored line is something you would never do in forza 3.
I can see why you think comparing this to dirt 2 is stupid. But it does have simliar tracks, cars, views, racestyles, helplines, etc like forza and with that game around the corner it´s pretty hard not to compare the two games. |
I don't want to go into crazy detail why the games are not comparable but scope and depth alone as well as the developers intentions on both sides are completely different.
If we use your logic any game involving a car and road you lap around are directly comparable to each other. I'd put this in the same category as GRID, not Forza/Gran Turismo.
Forza/GT/PGR4 all set precedents with a bunch of features that most heavy roster games (Cars, Tracks) need to include otherwise they are looked upon as inferior. I can guarantee you when including a Cockpit view/Ring/Racing line the dev's intention wasn't to compete with Forza as a racing simulator but rather be competitive feature wise with basically all current racing games. Plus I think they really wanted to pioneer a visceral cock pit view that isn't just a gimmick which they succeeded in doing IMO.
Anyone with a brain would not cross shop the 2 if they have any idea what either are about but that's just the way I look at it.

Personally I thought PGR4 was very arcadish. But maybe that wasn´t what you meant. Just that they are heavier in content?

It was arcadish I agree. But what made it stand out is exactly what draws people to GRID/SHIFT which is a blend of authenticity/arcade. All three games have no where near a realistic driving model but they let players get small doses of realism which is what attracts short attention span gamers.
As you can tell Forza/GT are targeting real car nuts, they include cars for nostalgia reasons alone. Maybe something you owned 15 years ago, etc. A lot of both games content is just fan service to car lovers, notice the emphasis on CARS, while GRID/SHIFT/ETC are just intended to be exciting and fun racers. They purposefully don't really have any depth and focus on accessibility.
But I did love PGR4. Mainly because it was authentic like I mentioned. All the gauges in exterior views were spot on, the sounds were spot on. The power band/boost lag of my Evo in real life was perfectly portrayed. You can hear the McLaren Merc's super charger whine, you know stuff that people really into cars would only appreciate.
Anyway I over analyze racing games but appreciate arcade stuff just as much as I do sim.

Interesting. Usually only arcade vs sim is being mentioned, while here another layer gets added, the cars. Based on this PGR4 would belong to both camps if i read Kamels post right. Authentic doesn´t automaticly mean that the way it handles needs to be spot on, but also/instead how it looks and sounds.
When I saw the review for SHIFT it claimed to have managed to get sound right and also the sence of speed. Sound was confirmed earlier to be important, but does the feeling of speed also count? Is the interior good enough or not to pgr4 class?

I have played a bit now and I feel like this is sort of a crossbreed between Pro Street and GRID.
I am not a big fan of the career/xp system in the game, I mean the more you hit the other cars the more points you get ...
I think this is an ok game but I still prefer Forza 2 ... untill FM3 comes.
// Should add what someone mentioned earlier, M$ wheel is better than the pad with this one.

Is it just me or is anyone else experiancing control lag in the game? I tried with the microsoft wheel (wireless) and with a wired controller just to be sure it´s not the controller. Otherwise i think the game is really good!

I sort of find a bit of lag in my ms wheel too ... but not really that much (doesn't affect getting 1-3). tbh I'm not used to cockpit view so I thought the unresponsiveness was due to that.

Since the RAMS version is not a scene release, will abgx verify it, if they don't, then I won't be able to burn it anyway. Just want more info before I download

Thanks for the info, but towards the bottom it still says unverified, so I want to be sure that since this release is not a scene release, that abgx will verify it so that I can burn it

I might get to play this tonight.
So far downloaded the Global release but some dick decided to password protect the files, second time round was my fault and downloaded the NTSC p2p release.
Might have got it right this time round after 20 odd gigs of downloading...
