Modding is going to be a problem with all those 512 or so (EU multi-5 version.) 8MB data chunks.
Perhaps possible with some batch extraction method but it's far from the PBO based solution ArmA uses, levels and such seem to be the only official "mod" support.

ARMA2 is definitely today tech and closer to Operation Flashpoint than Operation Flashpoint 2 (which is imho closer to Battlefield2)

fanboi dont worry , both games have good points and the main thing for me right now with a busy family is the what can i jump into fast for some fun quickly?
i just patched arma 2 with latest beta and took me 10 - 15 mins to get a game that let me in cause of me needing to use language file mods etc, pain in ass when u dont have long to fuck about, and i dont want to only play on one dedicated server all the time to make it easier.
with ofp2 at least one can get it on and play... cant fault them for stability and frame rates for sure.

Wonder if they're preparing DLC already? there's a DLC folder with the level editor with five different DLC defined albeit there's no details about them.

Does that happen when you run the setup ?
Seems to be corrupted.
Also, I just finished the first mission and I'm kinda deisasppointed, it seems I can't see the enemy mofos, or when I see them they are 5 kms away, the scope of the normal weapon just fails. Eveeryone was shooting and I was like "where the shit are they" lol
I deleted the savegame and I'll start again, this time I'll grab the sniper.
Also, gfx is the definition of mediocre, smoke is really badly implemented, just get close to it and turn around, it turns with you, sprites ftw ! |
How do you "get" the sniper?
I didn't find any option to customize the loadout before missions...perhaps there's a way to use a different squad member I'm missing?
I'm almost done with mission 2 and I'm craving for a sniper rifle

I know this might sound off but when I line up on a target the sight seems to 'jump' either to the left or right if I am aiming horizontally or a degree up/down when aiming vertically.
In other words I am finding it difficult to get the reticle on the spot I want to shoot at it either slips to the left or right up/down.
Anyone else get that?

Saw one other person mention mouse lag/sluggishness. To fix it download your mouse software and force it to disable acceleration (i needed a restart for it to take effect)... that's all I had to do. In all other games unchecking "precision" in windows mouse options has been enough but for this game the movement/feel of the aim was very laggy/weird until I did this. Works great now, smooth and i can actually aim

sexyjesus wrote: | This game exists between BF2 and ArmA2. It is not an utter smapfest like COD4, but it has none of the detail of ArmA2.
Compare the road network and the complexity of towns. OFP2 has reduced everything - from road network, variety of foliage, town complexity, vehicle selection, weapons, etc.
It is a good game and the put a lot of polish on it, but it is not a military simulator. I'm glad they included an editor. Hopefully it will be mod-friendly, but I don't know about that.
Physics is a mixed bag. While the limited selection of vehicles seem to have more weight, the physics are floaty and it doesn't take much to flip over. But at least there are no tanks flying in the air like ArmA.
Whoever said it reminded them of Ghost Recon, I would concur with that statement. The weapons feel more arcadish like Ghost Recon, but the sound FX are great!
Overall, a great game, and I will look forward to a sequel or addon pack. |
Sounds spot-on really.

Town complexity and road networking are different because it's a tiny island with few permanent inhabitants. It wouldn't make any sense if there were big cities and extensive paved road networks. ArmA2's setting is totally different.

You just hit 'e'. |
Try remapping your use to anything other than default key. You'll be able to enter the crate, but tapping the key again won't exit it. Tried hitting every key on the board until I checked this thread.
So solution - change your use key back to E and you'll be able to exit ammo crates.
So far, the game is epic. It's smooth, comes across as tactical (definitely so on Hardcore), and feels like a game, not an application (*cough* Arma *cough*)

soldat37 wrote: | Ya OFP2 is just a beefed up BF2 is all. Some very unrealistic things going on in this game. The walking animations are annoying as hell and comical.Shooting enemy troops reminds me of MOH,they can take several body hits before going down and red arrows reveal their location, people shoot at the radar arrows so stealth is sometimes very useless.Lag on the servers is a joke.Shooting is very unrealistic and the sounds of gunfire are horrible.Switching weapons and going prone sometimes takes a minute or more due to the horrible lag on servers. Also there is no 3d animation of your body when in first person mode. Its not setup for Track IR where you can move your head around as you run or aim.The game is ok for what it is but its certainly no Arma 2 at all and no way in hell that its better then it.However it can be enjoyable for what it is sometimes.
I'm not going to sit here and point fingers. If you think its better then Arma that's your opinion and choice.I prefer Arma as I have been with the series since OFP1 and I am used to the realism that I have come to expect from a BIS product. One thing I noticed is a lot of players online are not used to open world combat.I rack up kills like crazy.I think the Arma players got a huge advantage over the COD and CS people. |
I guess everyone has different tastes. To me, ARMA felt very "wooden". By that I mean the movement just didn't feel right, the menu system was a chore, the voice over was atrocious etc. It was more like a "program" than a game. Yes I know it's officially a "simulator".
This on the other hand seems to strike a pretty good blend between realistic tactics and actually still being a game. Movement is fluid, the menu system is concise, shooting feels right, and bugs are nowhere to be seen (at least yet).
