Modding is going to be a problem with all those 512 or so (EU multi-5 version.) 8MB data chunks.
Perhaps possible with some batch extraction method but it's far from the PBO based solution ArmA uses, levels and such seem to be the only official "mod" support.

ARMA2 is definitely today tech and closer to Operation Flashpoint than Operation Flashpoint 2 (which is imho closer to Battlefield2)

fanboi dont worry , both games have good points and the main thing for me right now with a busy family is the what can i jump into fast for some fun quickly?
i just patched arma 2 with latest beta and took me 10 - 15 mins to get a game that let me in cause of me needing to use language file mods etc, pain in ass when u dont have long to fuck about, and i dont want to only play on one dedicated server all the time to make it easier.
with ofp2 at least one can get it on and play... cant fault them for stability and frame rates for sure.

Wonder if they're preparing DLC already? there's a DLC folder with the level editor with five different DLC defined albeit there's no details about them.

Does that happen when you run the setup ?
Seems to be corrupted.
Also, I just finished the first mission and I'm kinda deisasppointed, it seems I can't see the enemy mofos, or when I see them they are 5 kms away, the scope of the normal weapon just fails. Eveeryone was shooting and I was like "where the shit are they" lol
I deleted the savegame and I'll start again, this time I'll grab the sniper.
Also, gfx is the definition of mediocre, smoke is really badly implemented, just get close to it and turn around, it turns with you, sprites ftw ! |
How do you "get" the sniper?
I didn't find any option to customize the loadout before missions...perhaps there's a way to use a different squad member I'm missing?
I'm almost done with mission 2 and I'm craving for a sniper rifle

I know this might sound off but when I line up on a target the sight seems to 'jump' either to the left or right if I am aiming horizontally or a degree up/down when aiming vertically.
In other words I am finding it difficult to get the reticle on the spot I want to shoot at it either slips to the left or right up/down.
Anyone else get that?

Saw one other person mention mouse lag/sluggishness. To fix it download your mouse software and force it to disable acceleration (i needed a restart for it to take effect)... that's all I had to do. In all other games unchecking "precision" in windows mouse options has been enough but for this game the movement/feel of the aim was very laggy/weird until I did this. Works great now, smooth and i can actually aim

Compare the road network and the complexity of towns. OFP2 has reduced everything - from road network, variety of foliage, town complexity, vehicle selection, weapons, etc.
It is a good game and the put a lot of polish on it, but it is not a military simulator. I'm glad they included an editor. Hopefully it will be mod-friendly, but I don't know about that.
Physics is a mixed bag. While the limited selection of vehicles seem to have more weight, the physics are floaty and it doesn't take much to flip over. But at least there are no tanks flying in the air like ArmA.
Whoever said it reminded them of Ghost Recon, I would concur with that statement. The weapons feel more arcadish like Ghost Recon, but the sound FX are great!
Overall, a great game, and I will look forward to a sequel or addon pack. |
Sounds spot-on really.

Town complexity and road networking are different because it's a tiny island with few permanent inhabitants. It wouldn't make any sense if there were big cities and extensive paved road networks. ArmA2's setting is totally different.
