It has potential but it's a bit stressful as well and even hectic at times since you fight against the clock and also manage many different areas, from building defences and touching up your fort for the "zombie wave" to doing "missions" in the town such as finding supplies, survivors and equipment and once you get a few survivors you need to manage those as well and the importance of certain supplies like medical items and food become much more important, you can also take survivors out with you but this does put them at risk due to the amount of zombies plus of course the chance of infection or even just getting injured (Which requires medical knowledge or someone with medical knowledge to treat efficiently.)
I enjoy it though but it's quite a challenge.
(Three fort types as well, police HQ wih a 25% health bonus to you and any survivors and very easy to manage, prison with a weapon storage but very open and difficult to defend or a school which is even more open and gives a 50% attack to any zombies giving the biggest challenge of them all.)
Also at night you can barely see and the zombies are more active yet you do have a limited amount of time (Fourteen days or so I believe.) so it might be required to venture out anyway.
(I guess they'll storm the fort once the time limit has been reached and if you don't have the manpower or fortifications to hold out against them plus of course ammunition, healing supplies and food you won't really manage well at all, assuming of course that it's possible to survive in the first place.)
EDIT: Skills are also important, if you focus on "smarts" and technical stuff like electricity, carpentry and metalworking you won't have much for lockpicking, medicine and of course various other skills like scouting and the weapon related skill and sub skills such as focusing on rifles but specializing in the sub skill M-16 rifle.
There's more to the game than I first thought, quite funny and surprising at times as well like the above example of zombies helping revive their fallen by re-attaching their limbs after you've blown them off.
(I do try to aim for the head but usually hit the groin or legs, cutting them in half works nicely though but blasting off their arms won't kill them and taking of the head cleanly will just have a random nearby zombie either use it or pick it up and re-attach it bringing the dead to unlife again.)
EDIT: Oh and new zombies are going to come at you constantly so don't try to kill them all, conserve ammo when possible and try to lose any followers either by jumping over obstacles like fences or trough windows or ducking into a house or something.

Mental_Hippie wrote: | And you did try it with the expansions? It's such a huge difference it isn't even funny. | torrented the vanilla game way way back, and it was boring. then recently i bought the complete edition with the yard mainly to fund northstar development, but didn't really play it.
might give it a spin later and see if the complete edition clicks better.
edit: good gracious lord the lag! THE LAG! also the crashes, random bugs, terrible camera, the controls. can't even get to my friggin fort due to the lag.
too bad, seems ok otherwise... i hope this is not the same engine as northstar...

After reading Sir JB's post, I desperately tried to get into it. The *idea* and the *premise* is excellent, truly amazing (like Last Stand and Dead Frontier) -- but the execution is.... terribad.

The game is in it's current state pretty bad yes. I have played trough it twice, once with the police station and once with the prison. The biggest problem is the glitches, bugs and performance issues.
Overall the gameplay is pretty fun though, the concept is really nice and if they actually keep working on it sooner or later it might be more than decent

This reminded me of that American McGee game. Unplayable rubbish!
Epsilon: Game is great btw, I love it, so far it's a definite goty. It's remarkable how much has changed since the beta, stardock have been working their asses off, and it shows.

Posted earlier, you need the XNA framework redist from Microsofts website, similar to LIVE in a way, latest version should be 3.1

Anyone still play this? Apparently the dev has actually been patching it quite a bit since release. It's on sale this weekend for like $2-3 at gamersgate and was considering now that I noticed there has been heavy patching.
