I wouldn't say he's right about Final Fantasy unless he's referring to the new one XIII. I do find it amusing though that everybody who most likely hasn't played a single game of the series or atleast one of the classics (VI, V, IX, VII) seems to jump on the bandwagon and yell emo, heh.

You turn me on. <3 <3 <3

Muppets seem to think the series started with FFVII, and then judge the rest of the games on the same merit. Fools. Go play FFV or FFVI. Oh wait, you won't... because of the "grafixxxx111!!22"

I loved IX because it went back to the style of V and VI. It dropped the entire SCI FI angle which VII brought in. The previous games always had a taste of that too but it wasn't totally covered in it.

Yeah well i'd understand idiots assuming it's an emo pool IF VII was actually some what emo in anyway, it's not. The spin offs are though but nobody gives a flying 747 fuck about them.

Spot on except for one part: I find it easy to tell the difference between male and female characters in most of Japanese animation with this little formula:

If it looks like a regular woman....................................it's a man
If it looks like a woman with big tits...............................it's a little girl
And if it looks like a woman with huge tits that must be fake it's a regular woman

Always loved jrpg's, better story, better gameplay etc.

Why do people want homogenized crap where every game is identical? I can understand if people don't typically like these games (I'm not a fan of the new Final Fantasy's myself in point of fact) but it is starting to piss me off that there's so much talk of the Japanese industry being out of touch and in need of westernisation. It's not, and I hate the way the prototypical American audience and media which make the XBOX so popular and profitable are the vocal voices right now. I personally enjoy the cultural / platform independent differences and I'd hate for PC, Nintendo, Sony games to be indistinguishable from one another.

Bioware have the most emo characters going. Carth and Allistair are two recent ones that come to mind.

last jap game I played was MGS 4 and that had the same problem - 90% cutscenes, 10% gameplay - bleh

You didn't actually play Metal Gear Solid 4, you played 'Metal Gear Solid 4 made for a western audience'.

They altered the mechanics of the game to its detriment. Much, much too straightforward and easy on the default difficulty levels and far more action orientated and forgiving. It's for this reason people are led to believe there's 'no gameplay' but that's only because the default gameplay is nerfed for a western audience. In its defence the westernisation of the controls and gameplay is done extremely well - but you absolutely need to up the difficulty (or at least role play as Snake) before you can enjoy the best of both worlds.

...the cut scene ratio also makes more sense if you view it less as a videogame and more as a segment in the Metal Gear saga. For fans of the original series it is a fantastic experience which taps into nostalgia in a way videogames very rarely, if ever, do.

And don't forget; He's sick of seeing feminine guys, he wants to see more "manly" men. Methinks he might not only be a ritalin-doped retard, but also a batter for the other team too Laughing

i used to play a lot of jrpgs (final fantasy, dragon warrior/quest, breath of fire, persona, etc.) way back when. i don't anymore because they seem so restrictive. the long cutscenes and downtime don't help either. over the years, i prefer wrpgs over jrpgs for the freedom in the gameplay.

arx fatalis
dragon age origins
deus ex
system shock 2
oblivion
fallout 3
risen

all great wrpgs. i prefer more free-form, sandbox style game types. i feel mass effect to be relatively restrictive. it's controls are a bit awkward. i hope it's more free form in mass effect 2.

i'm looking forward to elder scrols v, risen 2, deus ex 3, dao 2, and fallout 4. i hope they add adult elements like nudity and lots of gore. Very Happy i've been spoiled by the mature contents in the saboteur, wolverine, gta iv, and dao games.

I agree. I think it was the same problem with "Last Remnant". Too much dumbed-down. Even some korean MMO's have drop rates/xp rates and what not increased to appeal to western audiences. Im playing Valkyrie Profile 2 right now, and man, this game is fucking HAARD! Very Happy

Ditto. IX was one of my favs on the psx for that reason... it's called Final Fantasy, not "Final Sci-Fi with swords that are actually guns" FFS! (referring to ff8 if it wasn't clear grinhurt)

Western RPG = easy games that have noob by the hand holding difficulty teasing you with sex and are more action oriented with shallow story line (save something) plus bloom , oh did i forget to add they are piss short like 6h long

European RPG = deep story line(yo mama was raped now kill all and save something) that have sex scenes showing women parts but not the sex act ,more down to earth graphic style and hard difficulty and learning curve , mostly finish able in 3-4 days

JRPG = you must have patience to play those and be open minded for suddenly rape scenes with tentacles , 600000000000000000000000 lines of text that could not be voiced because the sheer amount of it would make it a 9 disk game .... well those games are allready 4 disks , filled with story movies that are filled with motivation why someone has to die (yo mama was raped , you got emotional so now you kill all and then you find out you have to save something because it will save a part of yourself ) , mostly finish able in 250 hours or more

so well the story lines are well... yeah
Western RPG = save something
European RPG = save something that someone took
JRPG = save yourself

What by complaining that "in real life monsters dont wait for turns"

Does he complain bout how you can press the space bar in dragon age ??

Anyways hes a IGN editor.. all he wants is a game that has the word "fuck" in it alot, has shiney things, has explosions , unlimited health and lots of blood
