Seems like FADE has kicked in after installing the latest ACE, using the six-updater thingy. Anyone know a way around this?

I almost bought this game when it was 1/2 price on Steam but FUCK there were just too many damn buttons. Some of the battles and shit looked amazing. The demo seemed OK, and I know it's nowhere near as good as the final project, but there was just too much stuff to keep track of. If this was the only game you played, and you had a super computer to run it at high FPS, I could see it being the real deal. Too bad OFP:DR didn't have dedi's. It seemed a lot more accessible than this game for those that don't devote there entire online time to one game.

New "flashpoint" is like an 8bit game compared to this. Shouldnt even be in the same sentence really. That doesn't mean this game is super complex either. Just means the opposite for flashpoint.

New Flashpoint was laughable, at best. This game took maybe an hour or so to really get into, but wow, the immersion is just incredible. I bought it when it was completely new so i'm really looking forward to playing this again with the new patches Smile

I meant that the controls in Arma II are insane. You need like 60+ key bindings it seemed. As for OFP: DR, I meant that it's a lot simpler to pick up and play. With dedicated server support, it could have been some "casual" fun. I've heard the mission editor is pretty amazing in it. I saw a vid of ARMA II that had like 2000+ AI and it was amazing. It was quite amazing to see such a large scale battle pulled off. I like a game that I can jump in to though and ARMA II was definitely for the hard care. I played some OFP:DR and it was easy to get in to, but since the multi is junk, I never played past the first few missions, esp. when I realized I couldn't even play co-op on new missions with a friend.

It's called ADHD. Arma 2 is average learning curve for old school pc gamers.

The video you saw of 2000 AIs battling it out was sped up. Smile

Anyway, you dont need that many keybindings for the game. For instance, the movement keys for the men, cars, armour, planes, helicopters and boats are the same WASD (with a few extras for some of them like helicopters).

You make it sound like a proper simulation which it isnt. Razz

i re-installed this game just to see if it fixes the messed up character model problem i had (q6600/radeon 5770/8gb ram/w7 x64). well, 1.05 does fix that problem and also speeds up the game a bit for me.

unfortunately, this game just bores me to tears. i guess if you're a hardcore military buff you'd like the game for it's attempt at realism. i tried to jump off the carrier at the beginning but got stopped by invisible walls/barriers. say what? Sad now that's not very realistic. Razz

anyway, i never got past the beginning part on the carrier. my interest in the game flew out the window way before the start of the actual campaign mission. uninstalled. Very Happy

Same as the beta patches, no protection but a serial is needed for online play and a blacklisted serial will most likely give that FADE problem again.

Yup, FADE is most probably still in there.

So if you install 1.05 you can play single player without any crack. The problem is only if you try to play online and FADE can be activated?

"Fade" can trigger in both multi and single player modes but it is a bit random and so are the effects so it's hard to say. Smile
(It might also have been changed a bit in the 1.05 update though that's just a guess.)

Also there's a fix out for the new 1.05 campaign that corrects two bugs.

it's doubtful there will be a crack
cracks are usually made when there's a good excuse to making one.. here there isn't any now that the drm is gone

When did they remove DRM? I tried running the game using legit serial and patching to 1.04 (just before this one came out), and still got an emulation conflict or whatever. Had to use a crack from GCW to get it to run.

Only the disc check has been removed. FADE is still in there.

No, 1.05 is DRM free. FADE is another protection this game has.

Anyone can confirm you can play SP after installing the 1.05 patch without the original dvd?

I hate playing this game....it runs well, and looks awesome....but the gameplay is VERY complicated.

I wish there was a site that let you download pre-made missions and then lets you watch the mission unfold from ANY perspective (free-roam camera)

That would be....amazing.
