Fuck it, someone spoil it for me. Is it worth the while to reload if I only have three loyalty missions left and some minor sidequests?

question question question
when i do that mining shit.. u know, going to planets and scanning for ore n shit... down the bottom there are 4 'bars' representing the types of ore you can get... why is it that when the bar is full, i can still mine for ore, and the ore amounts i have continue to go up? in other words, whats the point of the bars?

Spoiler: | First, you can't actually avoid it on purpose, if I remember correctly, you will be forced to go there at one point.
Second, no one will die on IFF..consequences will come after. What they mean is, if you wait too long, by doing some quests (besides the legion one) between Joker mission (you'll understand soon enough) and going through the Omega relay...you will have consequences. |
|
You can save it until youve done everything else. Things pick up from there

Hard to say if its worth the while to reload. You can still finish the game without losing any of the main characters.
If you really want to know what happens...
Spoiler: | Shortly after getting the IFF (1 or 2 missions later), you will be forced to start the end mission immediately or you will lose your crew except for Doctor Chakwas. And crew means the people running your ship - not the people you can take with you on missions |

Spoiler: | Ultimately during the final mission some of the "minor" crew dies if you wait too long. I dunno if it includes Dr Chakwas and Kelly. |

You can keep getting more but I dunno if you get less or anything. Kinda pointless maybe

Same for me. EVERY fucking planet has lots of platinum and almost no iridium. That's fucking annoying :/
Also the mining is so fucking booooring...just cruising the planet with my mouse (and an enhanced scanner that is a tad faster).

Ah ok, I don't mind that. I just don't want to lose any sidequests because I end the game suddenly.

The smaller planets seem to have the most iridium and element zero. Mihgt be a coincedence though.

i gotta say... i miss the original way of doing these missions... with that wikky offroader vehicle. that thing was fun to drive, and it felt more freeform. now its just scanning and if you find something, you get auto-dumped to the small area to clean it out. bit of a pity, but oh well. perhaps the vehicle will return in a $19.95 DLC? wouldnt surprise me....

Doing loyalty missions is preferable to not doing them and going sooner after the crew.
Spoiler: | It is possible to lose both the crew and some of the squad. Of course if you manage to rescue the crew and lose a couple of squadmates, it is arguable which is preferable: you might not know the crew as much as you do your squad, and their deaths are not as dramatic, but there is more of them..and they are people too!!! |
Edit: There will be a vehicle DLC - Hammerhead, not much is known about it at this point.

The Mako driving got pretty damn repetitive on ME1, and it was particularly annoying when you had to navigate planets with VERY irregular geography.

The Mako driving was cool, even the combat was kinda fun. But those generated planets and "empty" sidequests were shit.
I prefer ME2's anomalies, even though they are few.

I could never get a handle on the controls, it was easy enough to jump above those shots but it was still annoying. I don't think they should of completely gotten rid of it but to use it for main missions was a drag lol.
Actually, well, it was pretty awesome when on Illos. But other than that.

More probes, more fuel - upgrades for scanning.
In my opinion scanning is better for two reasons:
- It's better than, as everyone mentioned, driving around on boring terrains with boring identical missions and it could take a lot of time. Which is bad if it's boring.
- you actually have a reason to gather resources, and once you get what you need, you don't have to scan anything other than the side missions, which is pretty easy and fast
Some backdrops were good in ME1 though, I agree.

why did they remove the mako.ok.put scanning but leave the mako for the ppl who enjoyed driving with their mako .
30% of my time spent ingame i think is holding the right mouse button for scanning FFS

Many people didn't. Mako sections were one of the most talked about negative points almost in every ME1 review. They'll try to improve with Hammerhead, I guess.

Haha, the first time that timer came up I made the mistake of actually trying to kill some of the Geth. I think I missed the Conduit by 2 seconds FFFFUUUUUUU. Glad I didn't run into that bug, though.
I wonder what the point of the Hammerhead will be? I guess it'll come with some side missions too, but eh.

No...I mean upgrades as in don't waste time scanning every fucking inch because the scanning range is shit.
In other words can you upgrade the size of the scanning reticle? Also it's not that usefull for a number of reason:
1. You don't get a heads up on what resources are highly probably to encounter on a specific planet.
2. It takes to much time to scan the planet inch by inch... Also it's a bit unrealistic.
Hi, I am the ships AI but I'm too MORONIC to search a planet for high concentration of natural resources. Please Shepard since you have nothin' else to do like saving the galaxy you do it....because I'm practically useless.
It's not like the game is so unlinear when comparing it to the first one that they couldn't automate the freakin' thing.
They pretty much listened to the community, removed the driving segment and substituted it with another boring function. WOW....what a big trade off. I'm mind blown by they're improvement.

It's true. Scanning takes at least 30% of gameplay time. That's too much for a mini-game. No wonder it gets boring fast.
Luckily, after you get decent supply of resources, you don't need to do it anymore.

I don't have to scan a planet inch by inch. You just scroll and look for a peak. As for realism, looking for realism in games is never good.

And how do you find the peak? By moving the slow (still slow even after upgrading) reticle inch by inch over the planets surface.
Add the fact that u have to stop every time u launch a probe and you get the point I'm getting at.

Don't worry, you'll find out within 10mins of playing ME2 (and you'll LOVE it too! Storyline is incredible, just be warned; it has far less RPG/exploration aspects than the first game - it's a shooter now) |
Great, Thanks for the explanation. That makes a ton of sense now. Surprised a Bioware game would go more the shooter route than the RPG route. Bizarre to say the least. Oh well, I am looking forward to trying this out today.

Hmm..didn't move it inch by inch either. Once you get the faster scanner, you can pretty much move it as fast as you want, and the peaks that are worth it will be easily noticeable. Just go for the planets that are Rich...you'll get plenty of very high peaks there. It is true, that if you don't have a decent start up on resources (you get it by importing saves) it might take you a while to get a good stockpile. It does get tedious if you do it for too long, But no one is asking you to do it all the time, and it is still faster than Mako and actually has a purpose. I hated driving around god knows where on a Mako just to scan that one stupid anomaly you only needed for a useless assignment. It's not a perfect system, but still an improvement in my opinion.
