Well, I don't know about the rest of the maps - but what seems like a well suited backdrop to the beta? Russian invasion of Alaska, perhaps? Razz

BF3 is supposed to be based on their new FrostBite 2 engine, which is, as far as I know, built around DX11, or at least fully taking advantage of it. So the hardware is already there.

Edit: Also, I don't think the scope of an all out invasion story is suitable for a DLC or even an expansion.

Need some help fellas!

I'm loading into the game, but then I just get a black screen and my monitor goes into standby. I'm running a 5870. Haven't had this problem in any game so far.

The BETA ran fine, but just the rld rls is doing this.

Heheh, good point. But still it takes plenty of dev time and resources. Considering that Battlefield is a multiplayer game at the core, DLC will mostly be focused on maps or other MP content.
Don't mind them proving me wrong though.

I see. Me and a few friends had kinda awful performance in beta with our dual cores ranging between 5000-6000+ and high end cards(XFX 8800GT, 8800GTS etc.). Guess it's different for each PC.

That wasn't due to the CPU, but rather the GPU. I'm sorry bud, but 8800GT and 8800GTS are definitely not high-end, they're barely mid-range these days :\ BC2 is a very GPU intensive game, so if you want smoother gameplay at decent settings.. you're going to need something with a bit more bite.

Well yeah it's not high end, but the thing is, BC 2 beta utilized like 10% of my GPU. And well I can run all the new games on high w/o AA and that stuff with XFX 8800GT, so I'm happy Smile(Except BC 2 of course xD). Though, looking when GT 480 comes out, GTX 285 etc. prices should drop, which is a good opportunity to get 'em. Cool Face

Absolutely! Newer generation stuff is great because it tends to drop the prices on current gen hardware.

Just got done with the SP, and thought it was a corking little game, SFX where top notch presentation was decent and thought the levels where well made, if not a bit linear in places.

The skirmishes felt pretty dynamic though as the battlefield changed after shooting out walls etc and making your own flanking routs, and the scenery never got boring either.

Was surprised that a console born game has actually turned out decent on PC for a change. Smile

Ending was shit though lol

I can't change AA in this game, have just 1 which means propably that this option is off. Why I can't set in higher? GPU - 4850

AA and HBAO (Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion, basically a "better" SSAO) are DX10 and DX11 only.
(DX11 further improves performance and has slightly better shadows and AA sampling.)

Assuming you run the game on either XP or forced DirectX 9 under Vista/Windows 7 that is.

That looks like some polygon (The models.) error or maybe a texture problem (EDIT: Z what it's called issue maybe?), might be driver related depending on what drivers you use, I use the 8.70.3 drivers or leaked 10.2 hotfix to use that name although the XP and Vista/W7 drivers are different and not fully comparable.

Try to disable Catalyst AI if it's enabled and don't force AA (AF should work but it can also be set in game.) for AA also check with Adaptive AA and any filtering methods like "tent" or "edge detect" but that shouldn't matter if AA isn't being forced.

(Catalyst AI handles game specific optimizations, help file is a bit outdated but advanced improves performance at the cost of visual quality and sometimes smaller glitches depending on the game and if there's a updated profile for it whereas standard enables basic optimizations and tries to keep image quality untouched, required for for example Oblivion to use AA with it or for Crossfire on X2 card configurations but some games can bug so as a test try to disable it.)

Bit hard to explain, could also be some issue with that model when destroyed as it seems quite minor but it's difficult to say.
(The 4850 has around 512 MB VRAM doesn't it? perhaps lower texture quality just as a test, it shouldn't cause any problems like that if a game overexceeds this amount though, might cause some stuttering.)

thanks JB~. This may be caused by drivers indeed. I have a bit old of them so maybe this is it. Thanks.

Yeah I agree, just checked a while ago but there's still nothing, still it'll probably be released shortly if they plan a quicker 0-day update to fix any issues and similar discovered during the beta and after the game went gold. Smile

What a dumb method of working, going gold and then releasing a beta. Embarassed I guess EA devs didn't get the memo on proper development cycles. Razz

Jbeckman sir, I played on XP for 10 mins and could enable Horizon based ambient occlusion so it shouldn't be dx10 exclusive. Though the scene was dark couldn't notice anything different.

They released the Beta first, gold came about halfway through it. They'd have picked up major bugs and carried on collecting data for minor ones to be patched later.

Interesting, from a interview I read they did say that DX10 (And 11 of course.) allows for AA and HBAO and that they are disabled otherwise (AA can only be set to 1x)

Will have to check it again.
