No, its a different file allocation.
Thats why they provide two ways to format the stick, normal format (that wipes the whole lot) and then custom which in theory creates a partition which means you won't lose any data thats currently on there.

Im pretty sure thats because its formated with MS's own FATX. Partition magic should do the trick Smile

Not FATX because on Windows it shows FAT32 and Xplorer360 give's the error '' Could not find a FATX drive to open!'' Smile

It's not FATX but FAT32 Smile
Are you sure about that? I mean after you formated it with your 360. Im pretty sure its FATX after you format it and configure it for the 360.

No luck on reading it, seems to be a different file format. Wont be long until someone codes a program to read the USB stick.

the usb stick that I use is 4GB and when it is done with format on 360, it shows that there is 3,2 GB space left, but when you put the usb stick in the pc, it shows that there is no space left.

$SystemUpdate_9199 is here http://www.sendspace.com/file/5r3ux6

i've seen reports that installing this update on a banned console restores HDD install and other functions that were lost after the last ban wave. anyone else confirm this?

EDIT: yes it's confirmed. both usb and hdd installs are now working on banned xbox.

Omg! And now you can move hdd with your profiles and saves from banned console to unbanned one without problems? If this is true - best update ever.

Very Happy

Thats some seriously good news.

Yeah, now just gotta find out if things that were corrupted are still that way, or more the fact if I transfer a profile from a good console to a bad console and back again if things get screwy.

Edit: Apparently crippled consoles are still corrupting GT's and save games so we can't win them all Smile

You can see your files on your USB unit by choosing "show hidden files"
But they doesn't make much sense to a regular joe. Hackers could probably do something with this. Seems to be dummy files that use up all your space :/

thats cos full update with avatars isn't out yet. if you want avatars you have to wait for update to appear on MS site here http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/console/systemupdates.htm
full update should be around 80MB, as opposed to 8MB update without avatars.

The avatar thing is a puzzler if you ask me.
Why would MS release a patch that removes functionality. Thats ultimately what its doing as this patch has zero to do with the avatar.

I've already applied the avatar patch, so this one shouldn't go near it unless it was told to. Generally, you would never design a patch that overwrote older code unless you really wanted to over write it.

Something smells fishy to me.

Should I reflash my 360 drive back to stock fw, before updating? Then flash it back to LT. Also is there a way to update the dashboard without going on line? Like from a disc or usb drive?

here's the update: http://www.sendspace.com/file/5r3ux6

put it on a fat32 formatted usb stick, insert the stick while your 360 is on and the update prompt will pop up.

I'm guessing the avatar thing appears only on consoles that had the update applied offline via used usb stick/cd/dvd, and that's not from the xbox.com site so it's not the actual offline update from Microsoft.

Nice thanks, old version crashed instantly in Vista!

Noticed xport and xplorer 360 couldn't open it, so this proggy have to do for now.

Hmz,

I can't seem to get it to work.
I formatted my USB stick to fat32.
It's 16 gyg, i put the map $systemupdate on the root.
No dice

I got all the files from the map, put them in the root of the USB, no dice.

It doesn't matter wich USB port i use, the update just doesn't pop up.
What am i doing wrong?

*EDIT* i used the avatar update.
*EDIT 2 * Tried the other update posted here also, no dice either.

I must be dumb

*EDIT 3*

Got it to work :

Downloaded the official update from MS fromhere

http://rapidshare.com/files/372747753/April2010-LiveUpdate.rar

Unrarred it on my USB, Installed put it in my 360, turned it on, voila works.
