So you still argue that Mafia is sandbox game??What cant you understand? In mafia 1 you have chechpoints ot any missions that you can load when you want.Yes you have some kind of open world but nothing more. Can you go free in town without missios, just for fun? No.You can go in town only when you have objective. In that point, side mission mean that you can go free in world and you can play if you want some side missios, apart from main story or go staight to story missios. That thing cant happen in Mafia 1.Free mode is some different thing that can be loaded from menu but is separete mode from story play.
And yes-Luca Bertone missions ARE side missions at all for stroryline, but aren' side missions by meaning of "sandbox side missions".
No.Difference is going freely in free roam.In mafia 1 you cant do this withouth getting mission first.
Ah, so if you can't free-roam until after you've started the first mission it's not a sandbox game? But after that you can go anywhere, do anything etc.. Perhaps it's a periodical sandbox game?
...and I thought the Red Dead Redemption thread in the console section is childish.
Mafia was definitely no sandbox game. The game always pointed you in exactly one direction where you had to go to, after you finished one of the missions the next one began immediately.
The Luca "missions" were more like secondary objectives. At the end of certain missions you had the choice to end them immediately or to do a favor for Luca first.
There is no concrete rule.I give example with particular game. The right exmplaining is here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandbox_game .There is more then one things that can describe game as sandbox game but most important is Nonlinear gameplay. In mafia 1 missions follow in order, you cannot choose which mission to play. This is i mean with previos post. And yes,in some way i want to say that

And please MAKE difference between "mission first" and "first mission".I mean that you cannot go freeroam without get a mission(any mission).
I wouldn't call Mafia a 100% sandbox game, it's just that most missions weren't completely linear.
The extra mode of the game, which got unlocked after finishing it, was different though. I remember driving around and doing stunts and challenges, Hmm ... so I guess that part was sandbox. And it had a LOT of content, it wasn't just a gimmick.
ATI might not have a profile for the game and Eyefinity/Crossfire might thus be affected plus any GPU problems even for single GPU mode and performance might be slightly reduced as well until they get a optimized profile in place some months after the games release (Or a hotfix unless the developers work with both companies though this is rare when there are exclusives like this as demonstrated by ATI with Dirt 2 and AvP 3 or NVIDIA with Crysis and GRAW to use some some common examples.)
Of course basic physics like ragdolls and similar will work but the Apex stuff is completely overkill for any CPU seeing as it can generate around 100K unique particles all interacting with the environment and each other (Shown somewhat in Dark Void with the jetpack.)
It's also not very CPU friendly in general and even shooting at a wall and genereting debri for a while might hit performance as those chunks build up and keep taking CPU calculations.
(Cloth and particles in general do work quite well and even fluids somewhat but complex stuff like smoke and massive amount of debri is simply too much aside from specific GPU acceleration.)
Of course well programmed systems like Havok can also handle stuff quite nicely as shown in Red Faction.
(It's a bit of a battle between these API's and propriatory tech like CUDA vs Eyefinity and so on.)
*sigh* A game I'll be skipping since 2K is the publisher, after being screwed around with bioshock, the let down of bioshock 2 and dicked with borderlands....im done giving them money....and that's a piss ass poor collectors edition....wooooo a steel case and music! oh and some map printed on toilet paper.
