haha, I don't know, I'm just looking at the chart, never played the game (just the free trial). Don't know what the cap is if you have the expansions.
But the chart says VIP = 50
Anyway, I know what you are saying about the limitations for 'hardcore' players, but like I said it's fine for me, I'm happy with the F2P because I play just for fun and I don't care about chat limitations and stuff like that, and if you are a hardcore player, you can pay

Aslo don't forget Quest Packs
VIP: Eriador (pretty much everything until Moria)
Premium@Free: Ered Luin, Shire, Bree-land (about 20-30 levels worth of quests)
After that, it's either VIP sub, or some kind of quest-pack purchase, we'll see.
As time goes, I start to make peace with this. It's a glorified trial basicly. The chat and AH limitations are there to limit gold-farmer annoyances (was a huge problem before these limitations were live).
so I guess we'll see.

Those are like 'extra' quests, right?
I mean, I'll be able to play the main quests and secondary quests (or at least a lot of them) without buying those packs?

Ered Luin is the starter area of dwarfs and elves, Bree-land is for humans and the Shire is for halflings. There are a few good questing places there (old-forest, great barrows, etc).
It's possible that world-quests are still available after these zones, and they only limit story missions after these starter areas. There are still a butt loads of story quests, so again...we'll see how much they will limit questing.
Seeing the quest structure of the game, I would assume they will limit story quest access and leave world-quests open for everyone.

Story quests are not there for lvling, it's more the "expression" of the scenario, its around 5% of the quests and I think its way less tbh. So you rly need those quest pack to lvl your char.
I think it's a nice thing for casual players and when you think about it more money will probably bring more content. The area coming with this "update" is a HL one soooo maybe they wont forget the serious players...

LOTRO had lifetime sub option since the launch. |
no shit sherlock? i was in lotro beta.. back in the days.. i obviously know.. that doesnt change the fact.. lotro is only mmo with lifetime sub that didnt fail completely .. but failed obviously |
Ok, so you're saying they were desperate since the launch? |
game was horrid in beta.. so you could say so.. if you expect to make superb game which will last at least 5 years , you would never offer lifetime sub for 200 bucks... and there been plenty of discount for it going for as low as 100..
personally i thought they will run out of lore.. but they keep making shit up... considering they barely own any rights , unless they bought more.. which i doubt

Uhm...why? | Going F2P is pretty much a last effort a MMO could make to save itself.
I certeanly hope that it's not as serious as this move make it seem, but I'm very sceptical about the future of the game. |
contradicts what is happening with DDO . . .
Quote: | Similar move increased Turbines profits from D&D:O by about 500% (read the announcement somewhere), so it is logical they will try it with LOTRO as well. Especially since there will be new games coming later this year as well as the new year. It's not pure F2P, more like extended trial. |

Ignorance is such a mean bitch !
They barely own any rights, ye ofc everything written by Tolkien is own by the Middle earth Enterprise , formerly Tolkien enterprise and Turbine is one of the licensed company by The M.E enterprise not many companies are btw. So they can use the lore of Tolkien books (all of em ) but it has to be reviewed by the M.E.E. I think there is more than enough lore to build a game with. lotro is 3year old and have a very stable but I reckon not very high population...
Anyway no need to argue huh |
they cant use all of the books.. well maybe they can now, since wb bought turbine( and they had lotro rights ) , when game was released, they barely could use couple of chapters.. not to mention books or all of them.. there were press releases at game release, and its close to impossible find them now...

dont get me wrong though, I am a turbine well old turbine dev team admirer, they just got all lost somewhere again with new staff changes etc etc.. Lotro is very well made solid coding and great looking.. I just got bored at lvl 50 before expansions came out.. The monster play be more fun if it allowed more freedom to roam and attack hobbits ..
gfx means shit to me most of the time regarding mmo's not many can do content/feel and gfx of goodness and get away with it.. Turbines first mmo was still the best and although crummy looking today, the playability and fun/content and questing is 2nd to none...

are you retarded in some way ? first off warner bros owns all rights to lotr games, since they bought turbine.. which obviously makes turbine have all the rights too.. which i already said..
second of i was speaking about turbine rights when game launched..
third off showing page with 10 different icons doesnt say anything.. nor does it describe how much each of them have..

this is info from wikipedia.. and probably updated which isnt helping me now, since turbine bought new rights in 2008 and extended license , i cant find original press release 3 years after game launch.. but if you dont have your facts.. claiming that turbine owns everything. when in fact wb owns everything + turbine..
and the fact that i was speaking about turbine rights when game launched. not about now

The lack of PvP in LoTRO really isn't an issue for me. I've stopped playing on PvP-servers in these fantasy games as well because it's just bs anyway. Being killed is just annoying as there's no consequences except for being transported to a respawn point.
EVE-Online has redefined my view on PvP completely. If there isn't real consequences related to dying I can't generate neither excitement, grief nor joy. PvP without consequences is pointless as far as I'm concerned. Darkfall mechanics had potential, but sadly the game itself was fail. Full loot is the only way to go from now on for me. If not I'm perfectly happy playing on a PvE server.
