|
 |
Well i got cash back from my old apartment service costs and gonna buy some new hardware wich i badly needed.
Was thinking of:
Headset: €77,-
Roccat Kave Solid 5.1 Gaming Headset
Keyboard: €129,-
Logitech G19
Mouse: €69,-
Razer Naga
I was first thinking of getting this headset but would mean i had to leave keyboard out. Plus the fact that this one is EMULATED 7.1 while the other has REAL 5.1.
Headset: €159,-
Razer MEGALODON 7.1
So anyone can advice on this, should i go for the 3 or the 2 parts or maybe replace something by something better/cheaper?
Budget for this atm 270 euro, max 300 could be spend.

Im actually thinking of getting new hardware this week as well. Gonna order a video card!!
I currently have a EVGA 8800GT which I borrowed from a friend (obviously its temporary). I used to have a XFX HD4850 but even before I bought it in November 2009, I told myself that it was just going to be a temporary card. And so I sold the radeon last month.
Ive been reading reviews and checking out prices on ebay for weeks but I finally made up my mind. Going to order the card either tomorrow or the day after! and then I will post some pics
Anyways about your post, that mouse in the picture is pretty awesome. The keyboard and headset seem a bit pricey though but then again Im going to be spending a shit load of cash this week as well (on the vid card) so I say go for its truly what you really really want and you have no doubt in your mind about it

Both the mouse and keyboard are way over the top if you ask me. Are you really going to use the macros on the keyboard, and all the buttons on the mouse? I highly doubt it to be honest
I'd save money on both of those fronts. The headset is a good product for a headset, although like all headsets, it lacks a bit on the bass and treble; mostly the bass is quite weak. What kind of soundcard do you have? I highly discourage using an onboard soundcard with this. Onboard chips are pretty decent nowadays, but if you're willing to spend that kind of money on a mere headset, you might as well spend some money on an X-Fi or Xonar. Especially the X-Fi in OpenAL enabled games makes a huge difference in sound quality, and the crystalyzer option remedies some of the unpure sounds the headset will have
You can easily get a Xonar or X-Fi for the money you can save by not going for an overpriced kb/mouse

The mouse is good for FPS or maybe some mmo's. I personally wanna get it just cause I think I could get use out of those side buttons.
Keyboard I have no opinion as I don't use logitech.
Headphones I would say go for the barracud HP1.7.1 is over rated and I doubt you'll notice a difference with it in headphones. The volume part of the HP1's is smaller, they're not touch interface so you have actual buttons, and the mic isn't as annoying as well as being detachable. I really think they went backwards with the megladon from what they did with the HP1's. I also love having it be a detachable mic, doesn't ever get in the way like every other headset with obtrusive mics.

If sound isn't so important, why spend such a silly amount on the headset

Cuz i dont want a headset where suddenly stuff breaks or the cable suddenly gets fucked (u know breaks inside the cable). Wich usually happens with the 10 euro ones.

I confused myself, had the Razer headset in mind instead of the Roccat. That's what I meant though; the Roccat would technically be middle segment, Razer high segment in terms of pricing. Quality wise however, I doubt the Razer is actually much better.
Still though, I'd go for a cheaper keyboard if it's the macros you're after, G15 or G110 or whatever the one at 60/70 is called. G19 just has a load of bullshit on it you'll never use |
yea i know that its kinda expensive for a keyboard, well not asmuch as my old one wich was 180 euros back then (http://reviews.cnet.com/keyboards/microsoft-wireless-entertainment-desktop/4505-3134_7-32015110.html)
But more or less the budget i have got, is gonna be fully spended on pc stuff. Thats why i took this keyboard instead of cheaper ones.
So unless you got another suggestion i can buy from those 50 euros lesser keyboards then go ahead

Why is there a DVI with the headphones Did they finally invent the 'you can SEE the SOUND' thing |
Its not for dvi, the headsets were made to go hand in hand with their sond card so its just 1 plug to worry about if you have the sound card. Then you can leave the dongle attached to the speakers if you have them, in theory its a lot easier to manage just having to connect and unconnect 1 plug

All onboard soundcards can do 5.1, and any motherboard manufactured in the last 18 months or so will do 7.1 (like yours). Doesn't mean the sound quality is good though, and both ASUS and Creative have some very nifty tricks on their cards and in their software to make everything sound better.
Trust me, I went with onboard sound for a long time as well, and then I bought my X-Fi last year. Noticed it straight away, sounds are much more crisp, and the bass/treble come out better.
Ultimately still up to you though, but I definitely thought it was worth it. Also because Creative's virtual surround works amazingly well on stereo headphones, can't imagine how well it works on a headset tailored for that purpose.

This bro, I used a sound card before anything and when I switched to onboard to see if it was that big of a deal I only used it for 10 minutes before switching back

My point exactly. Save on the keyboard at least; Logitech's cheaper models do macros just the same, and shit like the LCD panel is pretty useless. Got 2 friends with a G15, and they admit that they rarely bother looking at it, because you're focused on your monitor anyway.
I also still doubt you'll use the buttons on the side of the mouse, especially if you've got macros on your keyboard. Just doesn't seem easy to use to me

I cannot recommend the stuff made by Roccat. It's very flimsy and plastic for it's price, and the quality isn't very good.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

Roccat also has some shitty support. Ask epsilon how they treated him with his million dollar mouse he bought from them.
