That's true, they don't. But it'd be nice if this wasn't just a graphical update to Starcraft 1 along with a few new units.
Also, HL2 was pretty much the first game to incorporate physics into the actual gameplay (atleast in an FPS).
The map editor is the only reason I'm even remotely interested in this game.

I wasn't talking about the concept of a RTS as a genre, otherwise all games would be poor clones of Dune 2
You know like how Warcraft 3 is different from Starcraft which again is different from DoW2, and so on?

I think you're selling it a bit short there, sure for me it's kind of the same, but just new units, but for more experienced players it's likely a big deal the changes they've made to the game.
But other than that i think the huge upset in terms of innovation will be in the Singleplayer game, of course i don't know if the way they shaped singleplayer will be successful, but honestly looking back on so many RTS' in the past, many of them have had basically the same simple "destroy the enemy"-objective.
But if we're to believe Blizzard that's definitely changing with Starcraft 2, and atleast for me i believe that will be the place where people will definitely see some of the cool new stuff they made for the game.

That depends, the installation is encrypted, and it won't be unlocked until 24:00 on launch night, from there on you will need a SC2-activated Battle.net account, which you won't have until you have a key.
Keys won't be sold digitally until 10:00 CEST, so that's 10 hours of nothing, on the other hand if you can get your hands on a physical copy before that, then you don't need the download anyway.

Seriously why is so many people complaining that it is so similair to Starcraft 1? At the same time most people complain how dumbed down games are today and they prefer the way they used to be.
Oh well please blizzard listen to these "innovative people". Please remove all base building and minerals. Remove all uniqueness from the races and make them completely bland oh and while your at it remove supply cap and add cover + regenerating health for all units.

I'm just bitching about lack of innovation on the multi, i'm sure the single will kick ass (I hope).

@dezztroy
Hey, if you look at something like EndWar, you can see why the man fears change or new.

Heh, EndWar (And that "Stormrise" which is a better example as support was dropped extremely quickly whereas Endwar got a few patches to fix it up somewhat.) kinda felt like they attempted to copy the older Ground Control formula and that game was fairly successful, Battlezone a bit as well perhaps but I don't remember much about it.
(Or similar games.)
On the other hand it seems a lot of studios do try to mainstream and "innovate" games such as seen lately with Fable or C&C.
(Not that it always fails or anything, I enjoyed Dawn of War 2 a lot whereas it is quite different from the first one.)
SC2 SP looks pretty interesting from what little I've seen of it, not much for multiplayer gaming in general though so I don't know if I'll purchase it or wait until pricing comes down or such.
(Unsure about cracks and such with this Battle.net verification thing as well, loader/emulator mayhap but those take time, or usually they do.)

in 90% of cases, yes. But since you are the master of trying something new why don't you come up with some good changes for starcraft 2?

No, with this ad it is easy to see why no changes have been made to the game since the first. The fear of Korean Zerg rush must be really serious.

Hey, I like the game ! Reminds me of the good ol' times, set up 2 teams me+AI vs 2 AI and let the good times roll.
Needs more gfx, though, my PC is bored running SC2.

for "hating "sc2 you guys sure post a lot about it..
there are sport games, which have 3 new features, new rooster ( which can be modified by player too ) and sometimes bit more blur.. and we get like 10 of those per year.. np noone seem to complain..
there is 200 fps.. which is same, with new face and new bear, couple new missions, which in the end are the same.. just presented differently , noone cares..
there are 50 rts which failed by changing..
i loved dow1, game i consider one of the best in rts ( sure it had engine issues and stuff ), then there came dow2, what i wanted from dow.. bit better graphics, maybe couple new units, A FIXED ENGINE, fixed path finding, bit more balance... in the end, i wanted same but improved game
what i got , something i couldnt call dow, sure by now everyone got used to new dow2 ,but you cant exactly call it success and uproar was huge when dow 2 beta started and we saw its nothing like original
then there is red alert cnc and all others which failed by changing , and releasing new one every year
but now 12 years latter, you get game that is actually same but better , and for some reason you go apeshit ,
sc2 is worth buying for map editor a lone, i bought wc3 for map editor and its still best game i bought by far

You see, we didn't wait 12 years for DoW 2.
And how you can call DoW 2 not a success, I've no idea.
