So glad I didn't lay down any money on this (and I was tempted to).
How does this affect Stardock's reputation? |
Demigod had it's problems online but it was far from a bad game

Well, Demigod was a huge let-down to many people and never got the support that was promised. Different developer, I know.
I'm hoping for some big fixes for Elemental. But I'm still never gonna trust any of frogboy's hype again.
Epsilon: Game is great btw, I love it, so far it's a definite goty. It's remarkable how much has changed since the beta, stardock have been working their asses off, and it shows.

How the heck can I create Armies (3 soldiers in one group)? Got the tech, can't find nowhere the option to merge 3 units in one Army.

It's supposed to be fixed in the 0 day patch.
But this thread should be a case study in how releasing too early and subsequent pirate release can reduce your potential customer numbers.
@ locke you choose the amount when you train the unit. the window at the bottom left where you can also choose the experience level.

So far I love it.
Yep it's a little clunky feeling. But I love the modding aspect of it and i know stardock will fix it up. It's their love child.
But all the problems aside, I am still finding it to be an intriguing game.

Haven't had a game crash on me in awhile, this sucker has crashed twice during the first few turns of the campaign. Hope they patch it.
Off to the official forums to see what the situation is / if there are any fixes.
First impressions: only played it an hour before it crashed and corrupted my save game. Art style is wonky. Interface is great in some areas, terrible in others. Designing troops is neat. Lots to learn I think. Hope this is like Master of Magic once I finally get into it, so far I dunno.

hmm. I have played it several hours today without a single crash. System info in my sig.
It hasn't even crashed on me while Alt-Tabbing out of it and back... and from what i read people are having problems with that as well.
I am looking forward tot he patch tomorrow.
One thing that IS rather annoying me is the fact that there seems to be no indicator when you end turn. Seems like there should be an animated hour glass or something showing you the game is doing the AI turns. Instead, the game kinda freezes until all AI turns are done. That took some getting used to. And, IMHO, it is something that should be fixed up a bit. Some parts of the interface are certainly not very intuitive either... but I am still enjoying it and happy with the purchase. It certainly is getting me with the "one more turn" syndrome.

I have an AMD processor, which looks like a potential culprit in my crashes. Lots of guys with "random" crashing issues are using AMD 64 bit processors. Then again, could be entirely unrelated.
Going to give this another shot, I want to like it

Sorry, this game just feels unfinished to me. Another 6-12 months of development (and knowing stardock, that will happen) and we could have a really deep and interesting game here, but its just not ready as it stands.
The GUI needs to present important information about your cities and countries better, I shouldn't need to dig around menus and boxes to find out how much gold or materials i have.
And holy cow, does this ever need a tutorial! I'll keep an eye on this one, see where stardock takes it, but they really need to start releasing games that are complete instead of trying to pump em out as soon as possible. Paying customers are NOT beta testers.

Stop asking. It's not like they read these forums.
The game feels slightly unfinished, but it should be 'done' in about two weeks or a month. In six months, you'll have one of the best 4x games ever.

Patch notes 1.01:
Spoiler: |
Elemental 1.01
------------------------
* Lots of new seed maps (particularly for medium and large)
* Enemy Unit caching modified so that they are released from the game after death (this should address the “game gets slower over time” issue some have reported)
* In tactical battles, the camera will only move IF the unit is off screen
* Fixed a crash related to city tiles on DirectX 11 based setups with a game within a game
* Removed non-terrain based tactical battle bonus modifiers (an interesting idea but unintuitive)
* There are technologies that will spawn more shards on the map.
* Fixed tactical heal spell to ensure that it doesn’t do any 0 point healing.
* Fixed issue that caused failed spells to say “miss”
* Disabled the use of the L8 texture format to use the A8R8G8B8 format as it was incompatible with certain video cards and causing the game to crash (fog of war issue)
* Worldly knowledge renamed to “Tech Knowledge” to be consistent with the manual.
* Fixed a crash related to children being born during a reloaded saved game that could cause a crash on 64-bit machines
* Fixed a crash related to reference counting on the Dynasty screen that happens on 32-bit Windows XP machines
* Tactical Battles now support edge scroll
* Fixed a buffer overrun issue that caused random crashing on SSD SATA drives while saving a game.
* Cosmetic fix to the object tool in th map editor
* Fixed a bug that would cause the goodie hut graphics not to be removed when they were no longer relevant.
* Fixed minimap bug where unhiding and dragging the minimap without first resizing it would cause the map part to get offset from the rest of the minimap window, leaving it blank
* Fixed bug on loading a game or starting a new game within a game where clicking on a city would leave its resource tab blank until it was clicked on again
* Improved performance of units joining into an army
* Hooked up the draggable window showing the list of players who have requested a new turn or not in multiplayer, automatically shows up in multiplayer but does not get filled or ever unhide in single player [NOTE: Multiplayer servers will NOT be enabled until AFTER day 0]
* Fixed crash related to very very fast machines loading up data.zip before initialization causing data to not be fully enabled which would result in a crash when the object in question was accessed.
* Ice Bolt spell removed
* New spell: Stab of Ice, short range spell, causes enemy to lose turn in addition to damage.
* Sion Unit given special abilities and rebalanced

Wow. Just wow. This game needs some serious tutorial and or decent manual
Just played a "random" ( ) map.
Started on a peninsula as Altar. Place looked nice so I settled.
Met up with Gilden and Kraxis pretty soon. Shortly after that Kraxis declared war on my because they're a bunch of douches.
Managed to settle a second town somewhat close by but that's about it.
Gilden had me completely surrounded by town by then.
Soon after that Kraxis raped my shit.
How can the ai settle so many town in such a short time? O.o
They at least had 6 settlements by the time I got my second one.
Either the map was way too small or I'm way too slow at expanding
edit:
I just love how Skidrow titles this game a "shitty niche game" in their nfo but nonetheless release the game and it's update

Is it me, or cities are big resource hog?
I'm using 4850 radeon, with Phenom II 720 and 4GB ram, on 1280x1024 resolution and when my only developed city (with several buildings) is on screen, my frame rate drops to 20. Regardless of video setting (highest possible, lowest possible) there is always frame drop to 20 when that city is on screen.

It is pointless to play this game until tomorrow's patch:
1. The UI is updated to be somewhat more intuitive.
2. The campaign is significantly updated (though only for those starting fresh).
3. Resources are treated more like units. This is hard to explain but essentially the game will let you know of what resources you’re not using and how to make use of them.
4. There’s a lot of performance improvements the day 0 build, particularly for those with lower end CPUs.
5. The “day 0” AI is in it.
6. There’s been a polish pass to the spell books and tactical battles.
7. There’s been a general polish pass to the main game UI overall.
8. There’s been a lot of balancing to monsters, units, etc.

"Let's say I owned a taco stand and sold tacos for $1...if someone opened up a stand right across the street from my stand and sold the exact same tacos but for free, that this wouldn't have a negative effect on my business? "
Holy fail comparison batman. Man the piracy thread over on the official forums is hilarious.
