First equip it in your right hand then press triangle. Oh and do not waste points on dexterity! Bows are useless, learn "flame toss" spell instead, its already available in the nexus but you'll also need a talisman from 4-1 to be able to use it.

fucking level 4. My enemy the cliff has returned.
Need to do 4-2 in order to get the regeneration spell, and stack it up with my regen ring and shield.
Edit: and bow can be very useful on those cliffs. Since I have to be very close for my magic to target, I am usually well in sights of the mob. And just to piss you off, it is usually a team of a soldier and an archer, and those freaking archers have a great range.
Just found a good bow in 4-2 but cannot use it since of the stats.
Sabin, since you are dying too much in that level, just do another level. You can beat every x-1 level at your current power level (though would really recommend getting a fire spell for 5-1 boss), plus by beating those you'll earn souls to level up your char.
3-1 boss is very easy for melee, and 3-1 has the spell teacher I told about before.
Edit2: forgot to say boss 3-1 is easy but there is a catch to it. Not gonna spoil but gonna hint that you should read the notes that lay on the ground when you fight that boss.

What did you roll this time? I was gonna say avoid the knight because heavy armor is useless IMO though the knight looks badass. Tower Knight was easy all I did was stand back and shoot him with soul arrow. I was never really strong enough to melee bosses until the last 30% or so of the game. Was just too afraid of getting one shotted in melee, and having to do the whole level over again.
The Priest is a good starter class too besides the royal, because his shield has 100% damage block which is nice.
Yeah you should move to world 2 now do a few levels of that.

I think World 3 had the coolest atmosphere... and some cool bosses to boot. Armored spider is easy, you can stand back and shoot it to death if you want.
Like I said get the Dragonflame sword (enchanted long sword with fire). I think it's 2-1, in the maze of a cave system.

Nah, not in the lava (I'm already completely through 2-1, I just have to defeat the Spider) - but on some of the ledges inside the mines themselves. You walk up the wooden scaffolding all over the place and, far in the distance on ledges I see no possible way to get to, there are treasures glowing. There's no ladders going up, no platforms above to drop down from, and even if the game had a jump button - you couldn't feasibly jump that far.
I'm gonna go play some more shortly, once I work up the nerve and patience to go through 3-1 again.
This game has so many striking resemblances to Phantasy Star Online (except, of course, the loot system. PSO had a far, far better loot system and - shocker! - actually allowed you to sell the crap you don't need/want) -- but I would so kill for a telepipe right about now. It's a cruel, cruel punishment that you can't 'port to and from the Nexus. You can use Evacuate (or the equivalent Stone) to 'port BACK, but then you have to run through the - newly respawned and just as dangerous - areas all over again.

And I thought level 5 couldnt get any shittier, boy, was I wrong. I have to take a break, level 5-2 is pissing me off. After trying to beat that level, I would really like to punch a developer who came up with that. Or better yet, put him in the room with a ps3, tv, and a custom demon's soul map where he has to fight in similar conditions of level 5-2 with archers all around, and shit that takes half of your health away even if you block. And say that he wont eat unless he beats that level.
If you could teleport back and forth, then the game would not be that tense. 50k souls on a line as you go fight the boss, a lot more meaningful if you beat him.
Oh, and btw, boss 4-2 raped me. Not sure how I am going to beat him just yet.

Like you say about 5-2; what purpose does that extreme "challenge" serve? By the time you've slogged through it the first time, you're not relieved or satisfied.. you're still just seething with anger at the stress you had to go through |
You got it all wrong. This game doesnt want to challenge you, it wants to make you fail. It gets harder each time you die because it doesnt care for your enjoyment, it just wants to laugh in your face ! *laughs*

Wadding through the poisonous sludge is not the problem, fighting those huge club wielding mofos in that environment is. I have the regen shit, so poison doesnt lower my health by that much. It is just when those fuckers attack me, I have absolutely NO defense against them if im in the water. My shield does absolutely nothing, with just one hit he takes away all my stamina and half my health, and the second hit is not far behind. I cannot dodge because of that sticky shit. So the only chance I have is run like a mofo to some ground and jump all around him.
Also was the difficulty increase intentional going from 5-1 to 5-2? I didnt die going to 5-2, but now the same mobs from 5-2 take twice as much damage as before.
@Vikerness. I realized that he is blind, but his huge swings somehow go through the pillars and do shit load of damage to me. This game has clipping issues that annoy the fuck out of me. My strategy is to somehow finish 5-2. Manage to kill the archdemon. Go to 1-3. Rescue the witch, and learn firestorm. I hear that spell owns the blind guy.
I dont think it gets harder EVERY time you die. It gets harder once you die in the body form. If you keep dying in the spirit form, the challenge will stay the same. You can check the tendency of the world. Black means mobs are harder, white means they are easier.
Edit: Crap realized 5-2 doesnt have 5-3, where I need to slay an archdemon.
LOL? Just took down dragon god archdemon on my first try? I had more problems with freaking club mobs than a dragon god? wtf. I was expecting him to turn into some sort of an ultimate dragon archgod and hand my ass to me after his health went to 0. Just wow. Makes no sense.

I crafted a lava bow that pretty much owns everything in the first play through... are you talking about those big ass trolls? Yeah those were a bitch. I just ended up shooting them with the lava bow, takes like 2 hits and i never touched dexterity.
For the blind guy, do not run at all if he hasn't heard you yet. He will charge you (his hearing is excellent). Basically I just shot him with my bow a couple dozen times and avoided his retarded charge. Piece of cake.

Yeah the big ass trolls in 5-2. They were formidable opponents in 5-1, but somehow became even tougher in 5-2 without me dying. I have to lure them to solid ground. My soul arrow does nothing but piss them off, with them just charging me.
But its all good. I beat that level and beat the boss.
I am in 1-3 now, trying to free Yuria to get the firestrom spell, which I hear is good against the blind dude.
I am just disappointed by the so called dragon "god". The game builds you up to something so ultimate, where simple mobs will kill you in few hits, that you expect the archdemon boss to be nearly unstoppable. And he certainly looked menacing. Heck I would probably jumped off that cliff to my death if he looked at me wrong.

He was menacing, he will one shot you if you let him. The only reason you are able to kill him is because of the ballista.

He did get me with his flame on the first blocked path, but it only took off 1/4 of my health. Even after the balistas he was easy. You just slash his horn a few times, dodge and he is done.
It was their choice to put balistas there so they knew it would be easy for the player. Just very anticlimactic for archdemon. Hopefully next archdemons are worth bragging about.
Imo he would be perfect as the first boss, just to ease the player into the game.

I'm kinda tempted borrowing my brothers ps3 to play this and don't hang me for saying the thing that has put me off for so long is that it looks like a generic mmo in some ways.

Don't worry mate, it's nothing like any generic MMO you've ever played. The closest MMO I would put this alongside would be Phantasy Star Online, only with less emphasis on teaming up with three buddies and more emphasis on SP gameplay with optional MP functionality.

Finally beat the blind dude. The level after him is a very good place to farm souls, that is what I am going to do for now.
But damn. Got to the maneater and he completely owns me for now. He keeps pushing me off the platforms with his annoying pounce attack. Going to try to get a better shield, because mine does nothing against him.
