My old rig has held up for about 4 years now so its time to change it with something newer Smile

* ASRock P67 Extreme6, socket 1155
* G.SKILL Ripjaws-X 16GB DDR3 (Yes i know its overkill)
* Gigabyte GeForce GTX 580 1536MB PhysX
* Corsair H70 Hydro Series CPU Kjøler (with 2x Noctua NF-S12B FLX 120mm)
* Intel Core™ i7 Quad Processor i7-2600K
* Corsair AX 850W PSU

Thoughts? Smile

An absolutely well-made choice for a high-end machine. Nothing more to add except to go ahead and make the order. Smile

Be sure to see what revision the mobo is, however. B3 is the one you should be looking out for. Specifically for Asrock, it'd be marked on the box of it, as well as on the UEFI initial screen, as well as on the mobo itself with a sticker on the upper left corner as far as I recall correctly. Smile

Fine choice, although like you say 16GB is overkill Razz
I'd also opt for a GTX 570 or HD 6970; apart from being much better value for the price (on every front; better performance per dollar/euro/krone, consumption, heat, noise), for the future they're much more manageable should you want to add a second card (just for the record, CrossFireX scales better than SLI with these things as well, in the range of 20-30% better on average).

Good PSU choice, although 750W is plenty to run even 2x580 so 850 is a bit overkill as well, but it seems money is not an issue for you

Edit: B3 revision is the revised chipset btw, early Sandy Bridge chipsets had a flaw that needed fixing. So most manufacturers now offer extra warranty with the fixed chipsets as well, to reassure their customers Smile

The pricedifferences as far as i saw was minimal for the 750 to 850.
About the mobo, ive read some good stuff on it so if they have a flaw i might just return it and get another one from the warranty i guess Razz
And perhaps i switch out the cooling system on the gtx580 for a watercooled solution in the future if the noise gets too high Smile
But thanks for the feedback.
Im like a child on christmas eve now, cant wait for it to arrive Very Happy

Those AX series PSUs are sexy.

A little advice from my own experience. Yes a quality 750W PSU is enough for 2-way SLI with high-end cards. However, after a certain load % on the PSU, the aggressive fan controller will kick in (especially in the corsair PSUs) and that fan is going to get quite freakin loud. Even though its not overheating, it will just run at max RPM when a certain load % is reached.

So if you wanna keep your rig quiet, get higher wattage. If sound doesn't bother you, then 750W will do just fine

Why not go with a good single card ?

So you can have power/heat problems, driver incompatibilities, microstuttering etc ?

I guess it's not worth it financially, either. Games are weak, too, a gtx460 can rape everything in the near future.

Unless you play on 3 monitors in ultra high resolutions with 3D you won't need a second card.
