If your biggest puzzle in Portal 2 is piecing together debug commands and deciphering the latest Source, you might want to seek medical advice. I know I have. You will be queuing, though, behind scores of forumites who right now are suffering high blood pressure because of some perceived betrayal by Valve. Console port? Erm, no. Low FOV? Not when it’s at a borderline fisheye default of 90. I had to come up with some demented workaround to get a custom FOV here, though for regular play I welcome the ability to see most of a puzzle at once. Tools and tricks: custom FOV (regular zoom crossed with variable timescales), thirdperson camera w/ custom offsets, no-HUD.

game is a lot of fun so far, i'm at chapter 6 iirc (whole gel thing). i enjoy playing it on my big tv-screen sitting on my couch with keyboard on the lap and mouse aside the right leg. it works pretty well for this kind of game, while in normal fps you would lack the precision with this setup.
still being happy that i'm not forced to use the xbox-controller i just considered how awesome this game might work with a wiimote+nunchuk. never tried hooking up my wiimote to the pc via bluetooth until now, but before going through the whole process i'd like to know whether it would work for portal 2.
maybe somebody can point me in the right direction...
hm is it me or is some part of this game missing? In the trailers the player jumped through levels with spiked platforms where timing was immensly important and so on :/

They simplified those chambers because the playtesters found them hard. Also, many sorts of people were playtesters, so imagine them like the average gamer of today: short attention span, unsolicited feeling of entitlement, need for instant gratification.
But having all said that: the game is still fucking brilliant!
Could end up being DLC or something as well, who knows. I missed some of the more complicated portalling, but really enjoyed some of the other elements they added. Evens out well enough for me. Brilliant story too, the ending killed me

These weren't real levels, just "gameplay demos" created to "sell" the game.
They haven't been simplified, they are completely absent, even those of them that weren't anymore complex than the levels that are in-game.
But who knows, they might be included in the SDK as "examples".

Now, don't force me to hunt them down, but there were quite a few video commercials of the game featuring more complex versions of maps that indeed made it in the game. Not that I mind that much, the game is still the best Valve game ever made, and up there in my all time top 5. But it could have been top 3 easy.

Fair enough, I forgot about the others and I watched then again, but what I said is true, specifically the gel videos do not bear a strong resemblance to the ones in game and some of them look like they are introducing you to the gel mechanic but the environment looks like GLaDOS' tests, instead of Cave's, which is wrong, hence why I believe they were made for demonstration purposes.

No they were real, as was mentioned they were just simplified/removed. That particular example is specifically mentioned in the dev commentary tracks, along with some others.

You are right I listened to it on youtube.
Apologies, because 1) I couldn't see the similarities between the trailers and the game's levels since I played it with the detail level set to ultra low (as I've already said a couple of times) and 2) I hadn't listened to any commentary nodes yet.

I was bored after a few chapters - or was it just the first? Hmm.
Cute humor, but unfortunately I can't sustain interest in simplistic puzzlers through one-liners alone.
Portal was ok, and I remember playing it very late at night and not stopping until I was done. That's mostly because I'd heard it was short - and I just wanted to finish it. I think it took 4 hours or so.
I'm sure Portal 2 has new things, but frankly it felt exactly like playing the first game all over again - and such gameplay just doesn't hold up long for me.
Sounds about as profound as what the humor seems to want to come across as
To me, it was just a puzzler with cute humor - but not THAT cute. Goes on for too long without enough variation.
Then again, I'm not into the whole Gilliam-esque style.
But but, I could be wrong of course. That said, I still remember the hysteria surrounding the first game, and I didn't get that either. It was a nice and novel puzzler worthy of a few hours attention. Add 1-2 hours for the mildly entertaining end-sequence and cuddly song.
Well to each his own, but that makes me wonder what puzzlers you do find interesting then Casus, because it seems you're just not into the genre to begin with
@Casus: Portal 2 features the best voice acting performance(s) of the year, humor that rivals that of the good-old adventure games, it expands on the mystery of who built the test facility and the origin of GLaDOS and of course it introduces new elements to the tests.
Now if you still think "But it's just a puzzle game.." then yes, I guess you're not going to enjoy it any more than you already did; similarly someone that concentrates purely on the shooting mechanics of BioShock and isn't moved by its art direction, atmosphere, aesthetics, and "alternate past" plot I'm sure he will eventually call the game nothing special.

I found the latter levels in portal 1 to be more complex. And I had no real intro to the red paint. It was all of a sudden just there in the test.
same here though it was the white gel, it was suddely in the level and I didnt know what it did, took me a while to work out what it was for, i thought it woulda had an explanation

I think you're right, actually.
I'm not much of a puzzle gamer.
It's not like I expected much in the first place, so I wasn't devastated or anything
I just haven't seen people get majorly excited about a puzzle game before, so I figure there has to be some secret society or something that I'm simply not a member of. Because if all Portal 2 is, is a good puzzle game - then I must have missed the hype machine on a shit ton of puzzlers throughout the years.

Well, Bioshock was a laughably weak imitation of System Shock
The premise was fantastic, though. Too bad Levine is such a hack writer. If it had spent less time trying to be profound and more actually making sense - it could have been a strong story with a satisfying conclusion.
As for Portal 2, no it's not just a puzzler. It's a puzzler with cute humor.
