I'm not familiar with battlefront...but it's not deathmatch. it's objective based.
One team attacks, the other defends.

example of maps:

 Spoiler:

attacking team must complete one obj to continue to the other etc and the defending team must stop them.

maps are all tied into a story with cutscenes and all so you can play with AI if u want. but MP is the main shit.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Someone at splash damage screwed up the preload files pretty big: they included the pdb files, which are unnecessarily large debugging files that can be used to pretty much recreate the source code.

Here's hoping that slip up is fixed before release and cheaters can't use the information inside those files to create cheats easier...[/spoiler]

Every time something remotely related to source code gets leaked, someone cries about cheaters. People are going to cheat regardless if the source code was available or not. It doesn't make a bit of difference.

(and, no, as far as I know you cannot recreate the source code with a .pdb file)

TF2 is a great game, skill based, teamwork requiring, very good design ...etc. Love it. Brink has a lot to achieve before I call it TF2 in a nutshell.

For starters, many TF2 classes are high speed twitch requiring classes, I'll have to see about Brink, but so far it seemed way too slow for my taste.

@ Radicalus: Well, it's very obviously based on it. From what I've seen, similar classes, similar gadgets and it even goes for a cartooney look. In terms of actual gameplay (and modes), it's a 1:1 copy, not saying that TF2 or even TF/TFC were the first, but they made it successful.

Now whether it'll be as good as TF2 remains to be seen of course, it does indeed look like it has a speed more appropriate to consoles Smile

I'd say it's more like SD's first game, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, released in 2003. Rolling Eyes
yeah they are very similar but you can't say they suddenly decided "oh guys, let's make a TF2 clone." They've been doing this type of games for 10 years

Guess what comes before "2" Smile

Not that i'm saying it's a bad clone or anything, but to my knowledge TF invented the genre, and their mod is almost 15 years old now, with the Half-Life version, after they joined Valve, being 12 years old now.

Smart button and the high speed of a snail! All the videos they showed basically featured a few guys a few feet away, standing in one place, and shooting each other - and it still took long to kill someone!

I mean, there's a relation (I'm talking FPS game design here) between the speed of players and the average distance people engage. When the the average distance is small, you usually have to bump up the speed, otherwise aiming becomes too easy, as the target is too large. The further away you are, the slower you are, because you are fewer pixels, thus harder to shoot down with hitscan.

CSS and TF2 exemplify this nicely, they balanced weapon range of engagement, speed of player and hitpoints very well. According to people, who played Brink, even the light body type seemed very slow to them = epic fail.

I just can't grasp, why dodging is so mystifying for people, or why developers think people could't do it.

This is what happens, when you cater to those people, who want to be good in a game with no effort. CoD is by far the worst offender here, but most modern shooters suck donkey balls.
