It doesn't really make sense, why would you gain frames from an .exe switch? It's not like the graphics libraries are in it ... Weird shit ...

because of the copy protection in the retail exe i would assume
it is twice the size of the gog exe
P.S. I Fucking Love this game! I kinda miss the ability to seduce every third female NPC tho lol

I'd guess that the copy protection was poorly implemented and wrapped around other code. It would explain the loading times and probably the FPS loss as well.

That flowchart convinced me! But in all honesty now, what subroutines does the securom containing .exe run in the background in order to cut off 10+ fps? Plus, this game is GPU bound, so I really don't understand how removing securom (which as far as I know taxes only the CPU) equals an increase in FPS. I'm bedazzled. I never liked intrusive DRM, but this just makes a great case against securom.
Wonder how many other games it botches up ...

Here's a "quick" look.
Also, about securom.. guess that's why I'm sitting at 25-30 FPS no matter what settings I use. I'll have to find the GoG .exe somewhere since I made the mistake of buying the boxed version..

I don't seem to get any effect of skidrow's dlcs. If anyone has them working correctly, please post here.

I noticed no FPS boost with GOG executable.
// Edit
I doubt the DRM itself would hog the CPU so much. Which sane developer would want such DRM solution in their product? If Skidrow crack is in fact slower, which I didn't notice it was, it's because they're probably hooking/emulating some system calls. That's the only reason why it might be slower, which I didn't notice it was.
The performance issues are really killing the enjoyment for me. It drops to ~15 FPS too often. It's a shame they couldn't optimize it better cause the game is good. And my PC isn't exactly a Celeron.
I wouldn't call it a GOTY contender either. It's a nice looking game, but IMO it's just a tad too linear for my taste, plus the inventory management and character development seems a bit slow. I might be playing this game wrong (Not on hard difficulty), but with these performance issues theres no way I could go through that torment.
Nice looking game, 8/10.

I don't know how exactly the DRM could affect the performance so much, but I'm having more than 30fps in areas where the framerate was 20-ish before applying the unprotected .exe (it's not a homogeneous boost though, since in some places the average framerate is the same).

Holy shit, much better performance with unprotected GOG exe. Also game starts up much faster with it. With SKIDROW one of the cores gets to 100% and it takes 30-40 seconds to start, now just few seconds.

I received my copy today, unistalled Skidrow, installed retail, activated and registered and the framerate was meh depending on the area from 20-30. With GOG exe and paul.dll I get faster load times and framerate of about 30-45 and 50-60 in less demanding areas(caves, basements etc). So yes, the retail also has the issue.

Just finished the prologue and this game kicks serious ass. Tho I'm a bit worried about all the quest-related bugs you guys have been mentioning... hope I don't get stuck due to game breaking bug, I HATE those scenarios (happened to me as a kid on Final Fantasy 7, I remember I was so pissed!)
BTW, I found out that the biggest performance hog is the resolution (lol, should've checked that, I've been so used to low requirements in games recently that I forgot about it). @1280x720 my ancient 8800 gts runs quite well (30-40 fps) with almost everything on (No texture downsampling, shadows on high, AA activated, LOD Distance on Far and most effects enabled). The only settings I can't enable or it becomes sluggish are SSAO and, of course UberSampling.

For those wondering why DLC doesn't work, DLC is tied to the CDKey that downloaded it, your CDKey must match the DLC's for it to load it correctly.

Fucking securom bullshit... I was gonna wait for patches to fix performance, but now I don't have to. | Probably a dumb question but... do the exe versions match?
