World of Darkness, I think it further away. Haven't heard anything since CCP bought the right. But I have hopes for it, they done a wonderful with EVE...just hope they can do something fresh MMORPG-wise with WoD Smile

I told a friend about Neverwinter, and he also said that if it uses the 4th edition ruleset it could be ok because he thought that the 4th edition fit more for a computergame then PnP.

4e is more action oriented (which doesn't mean it can't contain a whole lot of roleplaying)
Mind you, I have yet to play a 4e game but I read (most of) the core rulebook.
Yes it is streamlined but less clunky as well. Combat is simpler (which to me is a good thing *remember evenings of playing Shadowrun where some people would have needed to throw about 20 d6 at once*)

for people who are actually interested in 4th edition DnD rules take a look at the DnD Penny Arcade podcast where the creators of Penny Arcade (in later season accompanied by Wil Wheaton) play 4e DnD with one of the creative directors of WotC or there are even youtube videos of the creators of Robot Chicken playing 4e DnD (again with the same guy as a DM).

That's what my friend said too, it is more action oriented which mean it would work good for a pc-game. I still have a hard time understand everything in the 3.5 ruleset and to beginners it really can be overwhelming. To make a game with that ruleset must be a nightmare.

Also more action oriented or not, the story and rp-part will be up to the DM or gamemaker. I mean you can have the best rules ever, yet if you do not have a good adventure, what help would the rules be?

That's like the worst thing that could happen, they get lazy and just put a DnD-mod on something else they did.

At least with real D&D, if you have a good DM any rule set can be made fun. Even if 4e is a joke compared to previous editions. Like shadow_D mentioned, D&D was getting so overwhelming and intimidating for anyone who checked it out. So 4e is basically a ruleset to invite new gamers in, since it is so streamlined and more combat focused. I've played a few games and it's not that bad, so I don't really bitch about all the "derping". Any fairly hardcore gamers should check out Burning Wheel anyway.

But even if 4e is more suited to video games, I doubt this will be executed competently.

That was the best thing with NWN and the way you could make your own modules. You always had a DM present that would drive you forward and make quests for you. Just that thing to give the player a easy DM-mode, that what made NWN such a great DnD game. DnD have always been about players and a DM. Eventhough the game definatly have its flaws, that thing alone made it a great DnD game in my opinion because you made your own adventure, like it should be in pen and paper-games Smile

The whole Cryptic thing is a huuuge letdown. I bought both Champions and Star Trek Online and I didn't even bother to play them through the first 'free month'. Hell I pre-purchased Star Trek Online because I got early-access, so after two days of that I didn't even bother to log in when it was released for real.

Atari completely fucked themselves on that one. They were so close to duplicating the gold box games. A little less fucking around and not yanking troika's chain and it would have been good. I already enjoyed it immensely and easily would have bought half a dozen more on the same engine. It was a perfect implementation of the combat system.

The art was actually pretty decent.

A little tweaking with each release and they could have pumped out a full game a year and it would have been great. They had so much source material to draw on it. They basically wrote themselves.

I have never loathed a company as much as I loathe Atari. I don't think I can ever forgive them for that shit.

Action-packed RPG gameplay allows for solo and co-op play for up to four players. Gamers use intuitive pick-up-and-play combat combined with a wide assortment of weapons, feats and powers to defeat a wide range of deadly enemies.

It's an action rpg thats dumbed down and streamlined to the point where all button mashers can participate.

Whoops it seems you're right and it's co-op primarily or some such from how I understood it.

Isn't D&D 4th gen simpler in general though, not saying this is the result of using it of course, this game with the above is like comparing BG2 to BG2 PS2 I'd assume or close to.

I thought the same when I read this. Actually, the PS2 games were fun in co-op as long as you didn't expect something that is true to the Baldur's Gate name and does not just capitalize on that.

I still pissed at atari for using this shit development group. they destroy EVERYTHING that they touch! look at Champions & also look at Startrek game. they did shit job on all games & I want a new NWN but no from Cryptic!!! NWN is ruin now, let Chris Avellone handle it & then it would be full & fun to play. I shit on you Cryptic!

You shut your mouth before you spout more ignorance.
MCA had nothing to do with Fallout Tactics. He was on Van Buren (True Fallout 3)

I don't know what everyone's beef is with Cryptic, STO was - and still is - awesome. My only complaint is the episodic nature of the game, meaning you have to continue playing .... every single day, of every single week, of every single month ... otherwise you lose access to older "seasons" and "episodes" (basically quest and storylines) Sometimes Cryptic will offer a rerun of older seasons, but it's rare and usually only available to purchase from the "premium" store. I stopped playing STO when they started doing that Crying or Very sad

The only good DnD, is a DnD with the rules intact. If they can do it, good, if they don't, they can fuck off. I like complexity!

Well, I get your point, not intact 100%, but very close implementation from PnP.

5 classes? Let's see.
Paladin, Cleric, Thief, Sorcerer, Wizard and Fighter is my guess.

Then again the question that poses itself is which ruleset are they gonna use? 4th edition?
I have no idea what classes/races are available in 4e up to now.

Im pretty sure the Derp class will make it to the game. Laughing
