Anyway, installing game now. Loved first Alice, hope this lives up to it. |
It's great because it uses the best specific designs from a number of controllers with the end product being one of the best controllers ever made.
And the biggest reason it is the best is because you plug it into your PC and it just works. No downloading drivers, no setting up anything, it just fucking works.
Not entirely sure why someone would refuse to use it besides throwing out some retarded derp generalization.

You guys misunderstood me it seems. I have a gamepad. I have this: http://www.thrustmaster.com/product.aspx?ProductID=80
What I said was concerning the fact that they are too lazy to implement support for every gamepad these days. I played the last 2 AC games only with the gamepad, never tried to use the keyboard + mouse in those. The difference is that I could use my gamepad in those games without a problem because they weren't too lazy to implement at least proper support for gamepads, if not proper support for keyboard + mouse. That being said, I'm forced to either buy a 360derppad or make my PC see it as one or play the game with "inferior controls" (which I still consider better after I got used to the stupid camera control from the mouse, at least it's fast with max sensivity).

This has nothing to do with the quality of the controller itself and everything with the fact that MS supports it natively in their OS - can you guess the reason why?
I don't have to buy a MS mouse to operate my PC, I shouldn't have to buy a MS pad. Thankfully, I don't have to as my Logitech pad works just fine.

Yet it's still a 'Pro' and 'Con' one would have to decide on when buying a controller; It's a pretty big 'Pro'.
And regardless, the quality of the 360 gamepad isn't disputed besides the D-Pad. (Which is now improved with the new version of the pad)

You wouldn't have bought a logitech mouse if it didn't work as well with the OS like the microsoft mouse did. So again, why would you buy a gamepad that isn't 100% supported off the bat like the 360 pad is? The wired 360 pad is hardly expensive either, it's on par price wise with logitech's equivelant controller.

I might just pick it up for ps3... |
They will work, but they will limit your performance.
By default Physx is at low. Bringing it up to Medium adds a bunch of small details all around and keep a good performance.
Bringing it up to High adds some cooler/strange effects like liquids (which are kinda nice but don't really fit with the artsyle) but also brings a significant performance hit when those effects are on screen.
I would really, REALLY not recommend picking it up for consoles when you can play it on PC. It's not like the console version would somehow have stuff that the PC version doesnt have.

How do you get to the shop to spend teeth/upgrade weapons?
I'm just starting chapter 2, and have only seen it once(chapter one at the train station before going to Hatter's domain)

Take a look at this: http://3dsl.game-host.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=54433#54433
You can turn off bloom, DoF, Ambient Occlusion and others from the Engine.ini (I guess it works in any of those: BaseEngine.ini/DefaultEngine.ini/AliceEngine.ini). JBeckman knows much more about tweaking Unreal Engine games.

I've played it about 2 hours, it's very good IMO. It's like Alice 1 but more "modern".

So wrong it's not even funny. Go to Q3 (probably UT has similar option) use /cg_thirdperson 1 in console and enjoy the perfect implementation for movement in a 3rd person platform game. The only reason a lot of games feel wierd is because they implement retarded crutches to make them easier to use with a gamepad, like useless camera restrictions.
Also this game works very nice with mouse + keyboard once you disable smoothing.

Should be a weapons option when you press escape.

It feels like the first game, somewhat, but it definately feels like a modern game too. As I said before, if you disable the post-processing effects, it also looks like the first game, but more detailed. It has the same crazy art style. From what I played so far it's very good if you liked the first game, but I just don't get the same feeling as the one I got when I played the first game.

No it wasn't. What I meant to say was that Max Payne was a third person game that worked very well with mouse/keyb

I know, but nobody has said so far that third person games, in general, can't/don't work well with kb+mouse.
The argument is for third person platformers.

I caved in and bought it using Origin as well (Had to pay $57 due to currency conversion though). Had the same issue of origin demanding priority for the disk queue, shitty programming. The cache is incredibly small, so instead of writing downloaded data on a come and go basis it is constantly pushing the small chunks and thus killing disk utilization.
I'll post some screencaps once I get the game loaded up.

I will never use a gamepad when the camera is moveable with the mouse, NEVER , the gamepad is not the input of choice whoever said that was a fact is a douche and should enjoy gaming on is derp360 and just STFU. This game works well with mouse + keyboard and I didnt even turn off mouse smoothing which I will do later, but I have total freedom of looking everywhere with the mouse, and that is a must for me, enjoy viewing wonderland with a thumbstick LOL, gamepads are for sports/racing and 2d games and derps voila !

A lot of people are experiencing intermittent/constant crashing from left-over DRM checks, myself included. I switched over to the Theta crack and haven't had an issue since.

Pause menu/weapons, I believe. I know it's in the pause menu. Second option.

I ended up turning the Physx effects back down to Low after a while, as the particle effects created when damaging enemies utterly molested my framerate on my 5850. We're talking 5 FPS sort of molested. Even medium became neigh unplayable in the ice stages right after you get the Hobby Horse. After turning the superfluous Physx crap off it ran like glass. It looks like they just decided to include WAY too many Physx-enabled particles in combat. They stick around, too, so you end up with hundreds of the things on the ground. They're still active, as well, so you kick 'em around if you move through 'em and whatnot. It's just too much to process. Funny how those little bits of crap are responsible for such a high GPU load.
On the subject of Physx, I remember it used to be a stand-alone daughter card before NVidia bought 'em out and started integrating it. Anyone know if it's integrated on-die as a separate processor or did they just integrate the circuitry into an existing GPU?

Neither. They rewrote PhysX to use the card's programmable shader units via CUDA. No hardware transitioned from Ageia's PPUs.

@Mchart: Actually if you don't play 100% simulative titles such as GTR2/rFactor/iRacing the 360 controller is an excellent choice for driving games
(And with the modified Chinese drivers that enable FFB effects, even the gMotor2-powered games can be enjoyable with the pad)
