There was a Daggerfall demo, but I see your point.
Neither Morrowind, Oblivion or Fallout 3 had a demo so it's not really a surprise for me that Skyrim won't have one either.

Yeah and the Oblivion point further proves my own; I bought Oblivion when it first came out and it ran like shite, despite my - then - PC being considerably above recommended specs. I don't buy games now without testing them first because, to be honest, I don't trust the developers making the games or the reviewers gushing over them. This is fine for me as I'm a pirate, but not everyone else - and this fad of telling gamers to fuck off and buy the game because there's not going to be a demo? That's WRONG and should be stamped out.
Let us try the product, or you can sod off if you expect to get "paid"

We never had any "rights", it's an industry, not a democracy. Any demands we have comes from our money. Unfortunately the majority of gamers seem to be suckers that are okay with paying for it all.

Considering your stance and replies in this very thread...? Yes?
Urgh... well no, not really, just ironic you fight against my stance - yet agree with me at the same time.

Yeah, well afaik no pc footage has been shown yet. The first time I saw Oblivion on x360 it struck me how different was it in terms of graphics quality when compared to the pc version, so I'm assuming it will be something similar with Skyrim.

Didn't Bethesda say the game would look the same on console and PC...I don't know how that's possible unless they lock the graphics options.

Yeah I think that's all about marketing. Not that I expect Skyrim to have spectacular graphics by today standards, but it will most probably have better textures for the PC version, and of course those textures will be additionally improved by the mod community.

That sellout Todd Howard during the development of Oblivion:

We really like the skill-based system, as it rewards you for role-playing your character class. Now, the number of skills and what they do has been changed again, and you have a huge variety of choices you can make, but hopefully you'll see pretty quickly in the game that we have a better balance between combat, magic, and stealth skills. We've really overhauled each area so that people could play the whole game using one set of those skills. So combat gets much deeper with different attacks you learn as your skills increase. Magic is similar to our past games in how it's used, but now it's more effective to use as your only means of playing the game. |
Sounds quite different from the "streamlined and remove this feature because its not interesting to me" Todd from Skyrim.
1 and 2 are still amazing.

Nope. They are recoding the Oblivion engine for it.

Looks like it'll end up being a fun game to play in some 1-2 years time, when theres a ton of 'overhaul' and texture mods available.

It's as much a "new engine" compared to Gamebryo as LA Noire's one is compared to RAGE.

I am confused with the analogy. Rage = ID Tech 5, LA Noire = I don't know.... please explain

In addition to what has already been said, Carmack has said id tech 5 cannot do full open world games such as an Elder Scrolls title.

If you look at anything in the LA Noire from the way they handle distant objects to the way they draw shadows to the way they handle lighting, you'd notice it does actually have nothing to do with RAGE. Unless they changed everything just to hide the fact it's RAGE.

According to interviews and similar I believe they worded it something like they took their current tech (Gamebryo) and evaluated it to see what was needed to improve upon (Similar to the process between Morrowind and Oblivion I assume.) in the end they sort of ended up with rewriting most of the code (Or so they say.) but the basis is likely still Gamebryo though that might mean very little.
(Unsure what to compare it to, HL2 -> Quake 1 perhaps or DukeForever -> UE2.5 maybe, unsure if it's comparable as such.)
EDIT: What I hope for would be far better memory management and CPU utilization, GPU improvements are also useful but if they use DX11 that should be fairly automated (SLI and Crossfire support is also useful though it often ends up being driver work for AMD and NVIDIA to utilize this.)
Improvements to streaming and caching would go along with the above to eliminate the stutter issue the Bethesda version of Gamebryo has had and it would also be far more stable.
(Broken scripts and other bugs are probably going to appear again though, Morrowind code patch rewrites part of the exe to fix deeper problems and the ESP community patch fixes over a thousand errors, several thousand for Oblivion and Fallout 3 - a couple of hundred for New Vegas though Obsidian has improved a lot as well.)
EDIT: As for visuals I can't really think of anything, tessellation and other SM 5.0 advantages would be nice but unlikely if they focus on performance, traditionally though Bethesda use comparable high-poly models already (To the point where there's community mods scaling down that 6000 polygon rock to say 2000.)
Shadows are a great part of what could use improvement but also something they already focus on with Skyrim, as seen in pictures though it's a bit basic but still a great improvement over Oblivion and Fallout 3.
(Terrain and vegetation also come to think of it, 2D sprites are a bit dated but still rather common.)
EDIT: Though I suppose it'll be first in TES VI: "Province Name Here" that we will really see a upgrade with the new-generation consoles being close to that potential release, or Fallout 4 if that's what they focus on next.
