Was close to level 2 of the dungeon this time but died when I explored as I found a room with some demonic shopkeeper, accidentally right clicked and threw a bomb on it which promptly summoned a sort of demonic guard (I guess the same happens if you are detected stealing any of the items.)

I died rather quickly but the game also crashed shortly afterwards as the entire room was filled up with those guard things. Razz
(Never stopped spawning.)

How does that work, exactly? I turned off perma-death right from the start (I've always hated that crap) yet it doesn't seem to DO anything... the character still dies and that's it, your game is over... start a new one.

Unsure how permadeath works as such but pressing ESC allows you to save (And quit) the current game, I assume with this unticked you can load the game even after the character has been killed.

Aw, I tried adding more than 7 skill trees and it didn't work. Sad You get all the bonuses and the initial skill but you can't spend skillpoints on them.

The whole game is full of really funny references, both to other games and movies. I'm loving it, I really am! <3

What? A roguelike without permadeath? That's ridiculous. That takes all the fun out of save-scumming! ... oh wait.

Steam just updated the game again, though there's no changelog or news article to say what was updated.

Oh this feels like Nethack all over again.
Started a game as a vampiric bloodmage - later tries showed that this is quite a stupid combination at least until you level vampirism up so you can get health from corpses back.

Anyway. Started off went through the left door.
A few turns later "You were killed by The Deth"
Freaking Grim Reaper. More like Grim Raper...
And I learnt one thing so far. STAY AWAY FROM INCONSEQUENTIA (sp?) . Those sidequests are - at least for me so far - undoable. Way too hard.

any relese yet ?

There is. I think it's a Steam RIP which you only extract and play. Just tested it and it works. There is no specific name to the release, though. It's just ''Dungeons of Dredmor''. It's found on a very famous bay on the Intenet. Very Happy

Yeah, I always hated that too. A long time ago I used to play a lot of ZAngband and the first thing I did was download the source and add a toggle for permadeath. Smile

Playing with hand to hand combat dodging golemancer, with skill in viking magic and mathematics, and ability to spot traps Razz

So far, a breeze, 1st level of the dungeon totally cleared, just trying to find a monster for a side quest. As golemancer I can summon a 'whiskers' pet which kills anything, even the sidequest bosses, and my hand to hand attacks obliterate instantly any monster, and if things get tough, I can imbue extra melee damage from viking magic.

I've so far only one complaint... the movement is annoying Razz I wish I could turn off the animations and just appear as a single sprite moving instantly.

at level 3 now (dungeon level) got one monster lair already. It got me worried for a second, but in the end my mustachio golem could hold them off long enough for me to pick them down one by one Razz

Anyone got through yet?

Vampirism and levelling it makes it easy.

This skill alone can let you finish the game.

Didn't pick hardest difficulty and permadeath to use overpowered skills.

Ran all the way down to level 10 (Quake?) via luck and abusing door closing, got a look at Dredmor but died shortly afterwards as I retreated into a habitat.
(A so called "monster zoo" that music got really annoying but I didn't get very far before I got fully cornered - which was the greatest challenge and difficulty to avoid running all that far.)

 Spoiler:

EDIT: Tons of potions, certain abuse of some cheaper skills and speed boosting items found on the earlier and more manageable levels were heavily involved of course.
(As to actually clear out the area and level up enough to kill that boss it'll be a whole different challenge, level four was the best so far playing properly but I am getting better and better, level 3 is themed after Doom also isn't it? come to think of it seeing the architecture on level 10 also being a specific theme.)

I used to do something similar when playing Telengard. I would hit the misty cube on the first level and hope it sent me to some ridiculously high level. Then I would try to find a treasure pile with some good free equipment. THEN try to make it back to the earlier levels somehow to actually make use of it. I don't know that I was ever actually successful in making it back to the first level but it was still a rush. Sometimes the simplest games are the funnest ones Smile

Heh that's one method I haven't thought about to try and get good gear, didn't have much room to explore without getting swamped by creatures but now and again you do encounter these open rooms littered with a whole lot of items, it is pretty random though and all sorts of stuff can be found that doesn't quite fit like how one of my earlier sword focused characters found a pretty decent blade called a steel sword that with some crafting was turned into a fine steel sword (eight out of ten stars) not that far into the second level of the dungeon. Smile

Of course the same goes for enemies also, finding a monster zoo on the first or second dungeon level is pretty much instant death if you don't manage to close the door again (It is instant death if you bashed said door down which I did once.) as even without the 50+ monsters suddenly swarming you there can on occasion be some (for that level.) really challenging foes (Those octopus type spellcasters for example.) mixed in, or several boss type mobs. Razz
(As is pretty evident I didn't get much use of said sword when this happened though I took down a large part of the horde before running out of food and healing items - and space to backtrack into as monsters tend to try and surround all adjacent squares next to you making escape impossible unless it's weaker enemies.)

Need to try more with spells I suppose, teleportation worked pretty well but as the tutorial indicated even better versions exist that aren't quite so random.
(Haven't experimented much with the more odd choices like mathemagic and fleshcrafting but those might be really interesting if leveled up a bit.)

EDIT: Come to think of it taking only the major magical skills at start might be a interesting build though the low health would be a issue, might be a fun character though.
(Alchemy would be nice also I guess, throwing potions work great even without the full skill.)

It's listed as a stat in the character screen so you can see some details there, unsure about specifics though but the higher this stat (According to that description.) the more likely a chance of a critical resonance cascade effect (for magic I guess), again I'm unsure what it really does.

EDIT: I think I got it when I decided to (And this was really stupid) put the lutefisk cube (Can be found often in level 2 I think, donating 15 or so lutefisk converted items to the specific shrine for it gives a random high-tier magic item.) anyway as I said I decided to put the lutefisk cube inside the lutefisk cube as it was a valid combination, explosion this caused wiped everything in the room and rivaled even the effect of the mighty arrow of mass destruction, similarly it did of course also kill my own character.
(AoMD is a item I stole from a certain pig demon/merchant further down in the dungeon and promptly was forced to use against him and the "guards" summoned.)

Using a lutefisk cube inside another lutefisk cube resulted in exactly what I thought I would.

A classic tactic in the Might & Magic games - Count du Monay.
