BTW a more complete translation of 1C Ukraine's Sergey Galenkin speculations (that had close relations with GSC): http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=33318860&postcount=302
Quote: | 1)The game was going to be a PC exclusive. GSC didn't have resources for console development and publishers didn't want to pick it up for consoles because of two possible reasons: 1)it's a single-player post-apocalypse title from Eastern Europe won't likely to sell well in Europe and US 2)GSC's terms of deal were too crazy for them.
2)Grigorovich didn't like the direction of the game, but some people say that the game was turning out great.
3)Grigorovich has been thinking about closing the studio for almost a year. Possible reason - he just got bored with this. <- trollololololol
4)Law enforcement version isn't likely to be true because STALKER IP isn't registered in Ukraine and they would get nothing
5)The guy on twitter is just a PR from South Africa, he didn't know and is looking for work now
6)Grigorovich still owns IP. He can give it to somebody but there are no suitable studios except 4A which have tense relationship with Grigorovich. |

He said that Grigorovich assembled the team during the lunch and told the developers that the project and the company are closing. He gave them their salary, a STALKER calendar for 2012 and some games magazine (with a preview most likely).
that is it. |

I tried to play stalker 1 twice, once when it came out and then a year ago with the latest patch and mods.
Both times it was a buggy, unoptimized mess with bad animations and ugly disproportional character models and it also pretends to be open world but in reality the maps are smaller than hl2 maps. |
I liked the games mainly because of the atmosphere and exploration. The world felt realistic (other than the mutants and anomalies).

Grigorovich is the one to blame in this situation. Worked there in times of Clear sky, and production standarts were so shitty, that I thought CS may never see the light of the day. All talented devs moved to local 4A Games, Crytek and Ubisoft offices after or even before the release of SoC. Grigorovich himself visited his workplace like once in a month, sat there for hour, and that was all the interest in his own company. BTW government problems with GSC is strictly the case of pirated software and some tax issues, and this accusations is rightful, for I confirm it myself.

yeah it does make a lot more sense once you realize no one was trolling about the clothes but then again, if he didn't want to make games in the first place, why the fuck did he start making games?
either way, actishit and blizzard will probably do more damage to gaming than the stalker series cut short, but for those who don't need way too much hand holding it's quite a longing goodbye.

i'd rather let any good series rest in peace than it being raped, even worse when it's being done by it's developer (bioware, io interactive, etc)
well, 2012 isn't looking too good when it comes to innovative games, there's nothing i can think of that sounds interesting EXECEPT Dishonored, which i have some high expectations for

Weird. So now I find out this Grigorovich guy's loaded and some kind of celeb?
Who the fuck is he?
Clothing line?
Books?
Damn, I don't understand the Soviet Union anymore.
Also, this:

the dude is a quite known russian games journalist.
-The game existed in the form of the engine mostly
-The engine itself lacked some crucial features (like cutscene editor) and the overall impression was that the team wasn't able to produce a game that would meet high expectations from a modern action title.
-Not many people were working on the game. Most efforts were focused on the clothing line, comic books, movies, merchandise
-merchandise, clothing line etc. etc. weren't really successful
heh |

Too bad. The first in the series is one of the best PC games ever created imo, up there with System Shock 2 and Half-Life 1, same superb atmosphere. But yeah, probably better the series ends now than leaving us disapointed with some half-assed derp version, that'd actually make me more sad and upset.

This is the crucial sentence, and it revolves around the meaning of "modern action title"
I'm almost convinced that nothing of value has been lost ;(

There are 65 stalker books released and they meant to inform guiness for breaking the record of longest running series of books based on a videogame.
