I have been prospecting the internet for the following programs :

3DSMAX

ZBRUSH

And a little bit of Cinema4D

Anyone knows any tutorials that explain each step and what everything does in that software ?
Digital Tutors seem to have quality tutorials, unfortunately only for advanced users.

Thanks.

I use Lynda for most stuff (though there's a lot of outdated tuts), otherwise Youtube has MANY HD videos for a lot of different programs. I did one there the other day and pulled this out of my ass for the first time using Blender.

I guess it depends on the popularity of the app in question, tuts for those ones you've mentioned shouldn't be too hard to find.

That's cool mate, the interface seems pretty easy compared to zbrush.

Thanks for the links Nalo.

Just a quick note.

Blender and zbrush are not really comparable. Zbrush is a high-poly sculpting package where you normally use a tablet and a pen to draw the models. Blender/Maya/Max are fully featured 3d packages where you manipulate polygons in various ways (some of them include sculpting too, but not as advanced as zbrush). They also allow you to do animation, high quality rendering, physics, etc.

Most of the professionals I know use zbrush + max or maya.

I know, that is a huge disadvantage as I do not own a tablet.

Zbrush seemed to allow the user the creation of characters within hours while 3dsmax seems extremely complicated .

Is there a chance for me to create something nice in 3dsmax just by using a mouse ?

I'm not a modeler myself so maybe someone else can answer better, but I don't see why not. Especially considering non-organic stuff, z-brush doesn't offer much in that area. You can also create faces/characters/animals in 3ds max, it's just gonna take you longer to achieve the same level of quality as you would in z-brush.

A lot of the people I know got started with max/maya and went onto zbrush later. Just get started with max, and if you like it get a tablet later Wink You'll want to learn both tools eventually anyway.

Absolutely. You can create in Max or Maya all day long without a tablet and it is preferred in that situation for most cases. Most of you do in those programs is technical, and if you DO plan on using Zbrush the only thing you are really using max for is base meshes. Beyond that you are pushing into Zbrush and adding SubDs while you add any real detail. That is the only place (besides texturing and maybe UV) where a tablet is something that becomes a real necessity.

Personally, I'm fond of Maya and non organic modelling (hard edges) so I rarely find myself in Zbrush unless i'm doing some high detail on some of the figures. Also keeps me from having to do a ton of Retopology.

I was watching a Photoshop tutorial for editing a 3d picture, everything went smooth until he started painting hair using his pen pressure tablet Laughing

Personally I find it more fun using MAYA Hair, that system is super powerful these days and very fluid after you get used to using it (can take some time)

For handling hair in photoshop, you can get around the tablet by creating your own brush that thins out. Create the hair with a line with the brush attached and it will follow the brush template. It is of course best to grab one of the cheap bamboos, but certainly isn't always required. Personally I enjoy the modelling more than the high detailing.
