in b4 fhitb ...
why did you post the brand of your memory lol. I mean seriously, you reeeaaaalllly think that matters ? ^^
But to the serious part :
with 2 gb of memory, you dont get any benefits of x64 (that i know of).
But remember, windows 7 uses basicly all your memory for prefetch (or a huge chunk anyway). And 2 gb in our days is really not enough (i'd 6gb is a good value, to be on the safe side, which then would of course imply using x64).
HOWEVER , prefetch used memory would NEVER give an error (or prevent) an application to run. Heck, i cant think of ANY reason that would happen EXCEPT it being virus related (windows would NEVER hook your memory and NOT release it for an other program). Windows WILL and DOES work with basicly whatever memory you have and in need, swap HD<>RAM.
So yeah, i think it is indeed virus related and not OS or hardware (if the memory was in any form damaged, your computer wouldnt stop to crash/bsod, whenever you run applications etc and not tell you about having "not enough operative memory".
Hope that helps

That is exactly what I think. Windows would release memory and newver would stop simple folders from opening.
Any good trojan/virus checker? Maybe avast sucks

www.memtest.org
install it on a usb stick, reboot -> check if memory.

while this never hurts to do (cheap and easy, so why not), i dont recall having had an error message about memory, if the memory was actually defectuous ^^. It would simply bsod.

Its just the first thing that came to mind... But I dont think its a HW problem either.

I just noticed you have 5 hours 10 min uptime in your screenshot.
For me I also happened EXACTLY after 5hrs uptime, TWICE in a row.
There's definitely a connection.
I have 10hrs uptime now, and usage is OK so whatever it was seems to be gone for me.

In case anyone is still interested (since this has become game talk now) these are my eventlog messages from the first memory leak:
Guess yours are similar
Code: |

* The Windows Audio service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 4 time(s).
* The Windows Event Log service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 120000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
* The TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 3 time(s).
* Driver detected an internal error in its data structures for . (note: SPTD related, Daemon Tools failing)
* The shadow copies of volume H: were aborted during detection.
* The DHCP Client service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 3 time(s).
* The Security Center service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 300000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
- reboot and BSOD and the same thing again 5hrs later

Yes, same here, first the sound went away, then internet connection died (because TCP/IP service terminated)
You'll find the messages in Event Viewer under Administrative Events and/or the System log tab.
I used security essentials for virus scanning and it found no threat. I assume its no virus since the problem is gone now. If you want to be sure I suggest you get Kaspersky its the most hardcore.

Yes, I also installed the new nvidia drivers recently. Could be that was it.
But I had those 295.51 beta drivers for over a month and the problems only started a few days ago.
Maybe it was a conflict with one of the windows updates.

Well it seems that it's pretty much confirmed that those drivers do cause RAM to fill up in certain cases, even if it's not what's happening here.

Ati/AMD must have been working on that particular release...

I had nothing but hell with the broken 295 betas, fucked up PhysX and a lot of other games too (oh wait, it's nVidia.. no driver issues ever. I'm just a filthy rotten liar) so I dropped back to 285 WHQL. Now I'm back on 295 WHQL and, so far, it's been good as gold.
