Power brick does have a small fan. It can produce some noice after console is on for couple of hours. I can hear mine if I get down to it

mach1ne wrote: | can someone give me a quick run down of current affairs? i havnt turned on my xbox in almost a year, and it is just running that hitachi fw that is wide open. im fine flashing it, and i have the sata card since the first flash came out, but i imagine its not safe any more to go on live, and its probably on its last leg anyway. what is the current best solution for playing online? are those wasabi ode units safe? if i buy a new xbox right now, will i need to buy anything special to flash it with? are there any current hardware revisions that you cant flash?
thanks for any help
* by 'safe' online, i mean, as safe as it ever was dodging ban waves and all that fun stuff |
Simplest solution, get a 2nd hand Elite console, likely to have an easily flashable BenQ or Liteon drive. Update with latest dashboards then flash with LT3 and you are as safe as can be on Live. Read up on xgd3 and liteon ihas drives though, you will need a new dvd burner. Slim xbox for me, are not worth the hassle and alot of the drives cannot be flashed.
OR .. you could wait for LT3 to come out for your Hitachi drive (if it is a 78/79 model) or just flash to the latest LT for your Hitachi if it is an older model (these ones dont need LT3).

Yes, I used to have that problem when I was a peasant LT user, usually programs running in tray can mess up a burn. So don't do that any more.
It all comes down to your PC's e-pen, and how well it can handle multi task. But even so, no matter the monolith you use for a PC, it is recommended to leave the writing process alone until it's finished.
Bottom line is that when you burn DVDs, let your computer burn the damn DVD and nothing else.

I understand using discs when ppl are using Live almost every day..for offline gaming I simply don't , but that's only my view...not judging anyone , do as you want and the way you think it's easier for you.

It's already here. FSD does full title updates and you can pick and choose if you want to use them.
I kinda understand where you're coming from though. What did it for me was the number of iXtreme updates being carried out and sooner or later the cost of discs outweights the price of a jtag/rgh. I picked up a second hand xbox for like £50 which I use for live and have complete 'free' DLC on my jtag and no issues with region locking. Disks work out cost ineffective when a jtag is a one off price.

I haven't burned a game for over a year, yet I bought the iHAS burner and flashed it back when that stuff was "new" - question though, is the iHas still the "only" burner that is able to burn new, Live-safe games? I'm selling and building a new PC, and I have my beloved Pioneer and iHas (which has never been used, lol) in it, so I just wanna know which one to keep.

thing is, there arent that many 360 games worth having recently - and the machine has a year, maybe 18 months left before the replacement at most so i can see why some are happy to just do the odd flash and keep on using their discs.
