Hi fellas, this is my first post here and I was hoping for a little advice. I've been offered a X800 XT PE for a good price (about 200 gbp), but it would be running on a XP 2000+, ECS K7S5A, 512MB PC2700 FOR THE FIRST SIX MONTHS. My current card is a GeForce3 Ti 200 (which has been great). What I want to know is, would I see significant performance by upgrading just the card, as I dont want to upgrade my entire system at the moment. I'd probably then upgrade the CPU+ mobo at the end of the year to get the most out of it. FYI, it played Doom 3 and HL2 fine with the GF3, though on lower settings at 1024x768 (obviously!).

What the hell, I'll throw in a poll too. Thanks in advance.

youll see a slight improvement over the ti.. but youll still be cpu limited... id look to upgrading you mobo and cpu... if your set on a gfx card spend an extra £60 and get yourself a brand new gainward 6800 ultra golden sample.. guaranteed overclock of 430/1200 ( 400/1100 stock ) by gainward hollycomputers do them i got one a few weeks back.. and its free postage at the moment

Go for it I would say. The major bottleneck will be the cpu though.

Yes. do some research n overclock the processor and upgrade the ram and youll have a machine thats just about top-of-the-line as far as gaming. i had a oc'd xp1700 that ran circles around any pentium less than 3ghz in games without breakin a sweat. but yeah, definitely worth it. most games these days benefit waaaay more from gfx chips than processor anyways.
