Dredd (2012) - 6/10 - A weak story , its another remake that gives a weak name to the original, the problem must be or with these damm writers or the directors that pay more attention to special effects than to the story , still think there is just one Dread (Stallone). If they make a sequel at least pick decent directors and writers to do it, or the next one is just gonna be like a van damme or segal movies a lot blood but no plot.

Prometheus - 9/10.
That movie was freaking awesome! Loved every minute of it. Didn't like that David from the first minute I saw him, there was something odd about him lol. CGI were cool too. Tho I've got to say I was expecting a bit more of the aliens rather than the last shot Smile

Prometheus 3/10 ... and that's being generous and even then it's only because of the admittedly great visuals.

Awful plot, awful pacing, I didn't care about any of the characters, the Engineers didn't make any sense whatsoever, the aliens were laughable, the motives of the characters were just ridiculous..... yeah, this was shit. You could see potential and ideas but the direction was hilarious and the film sucked.

the thing is they cut the movie deliberate like this to sell BDs as the final answer version ... did you saw that deleted scenes 10 minute feature that has 4 scenes from 20 that where deleted ... those 4 answered like 20 questions already ...

i see Prometheus as well BLADE RUNNER ... there are 7 versions of BLADE RUNNER... READ IT AGAIN RIDLEY SCOT DID ANOTHER FUCKING BLADE RUNNER FUCK UP ... One version has Harrison Ford as a narrator with happy ending using stock footage from the SHINING Laughing , One is without narration but with re-arranged scenes making the main hero a cyborg with implanted memory , ONe with mew special effects added on top something in the line of SPECIAL EDITION OF STARWARS that was remade with added new CGI effect scenes with narration and totally changes Color scheme making this movie look greenish blueeish ... and ONE version ... just read this

Code:
Seven different versions of Blade Runner have been shown. The original workprint version (1982, 113 minutes) was shown for audience test previews in Denver and Dallas in March 1982. Negative responses to the test previews led to the modifications resulting in the U.S. theatrical version.[137][138] The original version was also shown as a director's cut without Scott's approval at the Los Angeles Fairfax Theater in May 1990, at an AMPAS showing in April 1991, and in September and October 1991 at the Los Angeles NuArt Theater and the San Francisco Castro Theater.[139] Positive responses pushed the studio to approve work on an official director's cut.[140] It was re-released with the 5-disc Ultimate Edition in 2007.

A San Diego Sneak Preview was shown only once, in May 1982, and was almost identical to the U.S. theatrical version but contained three extra scenes not shown in any other version, including the 2007 Final Cut.[141]

The releases seen by most cinema audiences were: the U.S. theatrical version (1982, 116 minutes), known as the original version or Domestic Cut, released on Betamax and VHS in 1983 and Laserdisc in 1987; the International Cut (1982, 117 minutes), also known as the "Criterion Edition" or "uncut version", which included more violent action scenes than the U.S. version. Although initially unavailable in the U.S., and distributed in Europe and Asia via theatrical and local Warner Home Video Laserdisc releases, it was later released on VHS and Criterion Collection Laserdisc in North America, and re-released in 1992 as a "10th Anniversary Edition".[142]

The U.S. broadcast version (1986, 114 minutes) was the U.S. theatrical version edited by CBS to tone down the violence, profanity, and nudity to meet broadcasting restrictions.[143]

The Ridley Scott-approved (1991, 116 minutes) Director's Cut was prompted by the unauthorized 1990/1991 workprint theatrical release. This Director's Cut was made available on VHS and Laserdisc in 1993, and on DVD in 1997. Significant changes from the theatrical version include: the removal of Deckard's voice-over; re-insertion of a unicorn sequence; and removal of the studio-imposed happy ending. Scott provided extensive notes and consultation to Warner Bros. through film preservationist Michael Arick, who was put in charge of creating the Director's Cut.[144]

Ridley Scott's The Final Cut (2007, 117 minutes), or the "25th Anniversary Edition", was released by Warner Bros. theatrically on October 5, 2007, and subsequently released on DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray Disc in December 2007.[9] This is the only version over which Ridley Scott had complete artistic control, as he was not directly in charge of the Director's Cut.[144] In conjunction with the Final Cut cinema release, extensive documentary and other materials were produced for the DVD releases which culminated in a five-disc "Ultimate Collector's Edition" release by Charles de Lauzirika.[8]

WHAT A FUCKING DISASTER !!!!!

I mostly pissed off that Scott wanted to tell me that the Jockey in Alien was a huge buff version of Powder in a suit. And don't get me started on the whole plot and the actors... (Fassbender did best of them all... also the promitional trailer with him was great)

Prometheus - 5/10

+ Good looking for the most part thanks to the amazing sceneries;
+ Ok-ish direction;

- Incredibly weak and generic story full of inconsistencies;
- Flat characters;
- Extremely banal dialogues, Z-Movie-like;
- Almost no tension;
- Terribly designed aliens.

A rating of 3/10 or for that matter 5/10 for Prometheus would rank it pretty low in the sci-fi genre. I think thats way to low - sure it has faults etc. But you guys most have seen some great sci-fi movies ive never heard of - because in its genre, its still a good movie.

Now I easily find Alien 4 a worse movie - but its still a better movie, than atleast half the sci-fi movies ive seen and still has some great scenes in it.

The character of David is truly the only good character, and the only one that matters. From his initial attempt to make his likeness similar to Laurence of Arabia, his attempt to please - yet sarcastically bite, constant attempt to understand and questioning of the motives of the humans is brilliant. Really good performance by Fassbender.

Yes, you're right. Just because it's "pretty" doesn't mean it's a good scifi movie. The plot was nonsensical, the characters flat, the pacing was screwy and there were plot holes you could drive a bus through. It was a pretty movie and that's about it.. there's just no substance and even less incentive to watch if you're a fan of the saga.

Good thing for me that I do my own thinking.

In your opinion, of course, in mine Prometheus is a 3/10. At best. I'm afraid you're just going to have to accept that we disagree Razz

Quote:

Then you've seen some truly terrible scifi movies. May god have mercy on your soul. And yes.. Alien Resurrection was a better movie, at least it was consistent.

LeoNatan wrote:

Agreed! Surprisingly enough, my missus said the same thing; David was the only character there that was - as far as acting, motivation and style goes - good. Though even his story and placement in the film was haphazard at best. I feel like I've watched three movies spliced into one with all the logical intertwining strings cut. It had a few good scenes but not nearly enough to make up for the whole package being downright terrible :\

Just to clarify, the movie disappointed me not because I was expecting another Alien, it's just that as whole package, I found it unimpressive and not exactly entertaining. It's not even the hype's fault, since many fellow Humpers had already contributed to dismantle it. Razz

So I just watched The dark knight rises at the cinema for the first time. (It just wasnt possible earlier)

And it was quite awesome. there was kind of a lack of screen-time for the Batman himself, but Bane kinda made up for it. I especially liked his voice! The second one was better, no question about that. But this movie was still a very nice ending to the trilogy. I would not bet on a sequel with Nolan involved, eventhough they hinted at one.
