Cyberpunk 2020, as the name implies, takes place in the year 2020. The game's default setting is the fictional Night City located between Los Angeles and San Francisco on the west coast of the United States (near San Jose, California). Later supplements to the game have contained information about the rest of the US and the world.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
Cyberpunk in real life? Honestly I have to think twice about that. If it was a cool one, and not the normal "oppress everybody" kinda of cyberpunk, which is the one always used, if not the only one indeed. I think would prefer steampunk to it. But anyway, I do believe the future will be somewhat shaped into a cyberpunk setting, sooner or later. Who knows? But I do look forward to it.
Anyway, the engine used is the same used in The Witcher 2, right? And I do hope they don't get too big in their heads and screw things over.
How is Deus Ex not Cyberpunk? Cyberpunk typically (and yes, do look at Neuromancer) involves megacorporations running the world rather than governments [check], lots of high tech [check] but shit living standards for the general population [check], often some form of AI [check], a protagonist who gets fucked up (physically) in one way or another [check], often also lots of addiction in the whole world (drugs or otherwise) [check], heavy focus on hacking soft-/hardware [check]..

RED Engine awesomesauce, aye. Shouldn't be hard to render the entire city without loading screens, unless they're planning on releasing it for this current gen of consoles too.

Hopefully they'll get the setting right for the genre, and not like Deus Ex and most other ""cyberpunk" games.. Cyberpunk = "low-lifes and hi-tech"
How do you imagine a cyberpunk ambiance should be?
Like Neuromancer which defined it. It's supposed to be about low-lifes / "punks" (it's called cyberpunk for a reason).
So, likely to your point, every fantasy game had to be like the Tolkien world that is the spring or the fantasy genre.
Some people really are stuck and can't see that there are many different approaches in on theme..
This should be their first DX11 title, let's see what they have in store for us

What's the point of calling something "Cyberpunk" if it doesnt contain what defines it (it should be called Sci-Fi instead). I could make many similar examples with music. Sub genres exists for a reason.
cy·ber·punk/ˈsībərˌpəNGk/
Noun:
A genre of science fiction set in a lawless subculture of an oppressive society dominated by computer technology.
And;
Quote:
Cyberpunk plots often center on a conflict among hackers, artificial intelligences, and megacorporations, and tend to be set in a near-future Earth.
That's exactly what cyberpunk is, it's what Shadowrun run is, it's what Johnny Mnemonic is and, to be completely accurate, it's what Deus Ex is. We may quibble about definitions .. but DX definitely falls into BOTH of those ^^ descriptions.
Like I said, we can quibble all we want ... DX still fits into all known descriptions of the genre. You don't like that fact, fine, but it doesn't change it. I consider DX to be cyberpunk so that's all that really matters to me

Yeah, except the one main thing which defines the genre, which is even in the genre name if you missed it Buuut whatever
I'm more inclined to say defined, since cyberpunk originated from an era of punk and rebellion itself. The only thing "missing" from DX in regards to punk.. is that you, as Denton, aren't in the middle of the low-class, low-life culture. It still exists though, as you see and hear throughout the game, same with DXHR.
Your reading comprehension leaves something to be desired.
Only if you take it literaly
It's interpretation is an other matter and if you can read between the lines of both sentences, maybe you can find your desires satisfied.
