Nope.
Here this is what i got (it's in Dutch, feel free to translate), when i reported them to the European Consumer Centre:
Quote: | Geachte heer ****,
If you reside in any other country, then these terms are an agreement between you and EA Swiss Sàrl, a company registered in the Geneva Companies Registry with company registration number: CH-660-2328005-8 and with offices at 8 Place du Molard, 1204 Geneva, Switzerland.”
N.R. (Nathalie) Kurvers-van der Vorst

At least they are dropping the review score to begin with. Most big review sites still have 9.0 reviews. So props to polygon for doing the right thing. |
I have to wonder, all the "major" sites that gave it high scores - how did they even get to play it for enough time to give it any score.

Actually, I've just looked into it a little more (I wish I'd done this sooner).
If you live in the EU (everywhere except Germany) you can get a refund once the order is fulfilled and you have not downloaded it.
Terms of Sale are here

What games? I have none. Perfect for people like me, even if I did decide to pay for it. |
also i dont think, that banning account means, that they remove all your games. Now that i'd wager would be highly illegal. Unless they refund you for every game you own on origin. I think they simply (if even) ban you from that specific game or whatever. But making your whole origin account unusable seems a bit odd. And again, highly illegal. If they would do this, the world would been in outrage for some time now and EA would be kneedeep in class action suits (because of it). |
Valve has done the same before, the account is a placeholder to store your games licenses online. By activating a game on steam you basically agree to give them co-ownership of the license and agree to the terms of using steam as such a place.
I know it sounds very fucked up, but if you didn't want such a risk, you shouldn't had used steam (or any other similar platform).
I find it shit how companies always try to find loopholes in laws so they can do whatever they want without being sued for it.
TBH, they should punish those kind of companies that use loopholes on purpose really harsh, set an example out of them...

I can't blame Valve/EA/Whomever from doing that though. In the case of Valve in particular. If you issue a complaint/chargeback then Steam/Valve has the money taken away, but they still have to pay the publisher of the game for the sale. Same goes with EA and non-EA sales.
What I don't know about Valve/Steam is if they offer refunds on Valve games as that would be different.
Tying this back to Simcity; I feel sorry for Amazon and all the refunds they have issued for Simcity. I doubt EA will compensate Amazon for refunds of the digital version of the game. Further, if you got a refund from Amazon i'm willing to bet the product is still active on the persons Origin account. So it's no wonder Amazon stopped selling the game. They were getting fucked because they were offering refunds.

Yeah EAs entire concept with this game is disgusting. The master plan is to force you to keep paying and paying. Or else they will soft kill you. As in forcing you to buy updates, or else you cant play with others who updated. And if that doesnt pan out just take the cash and shut it all down. And on top of that they want to watch you and monitor everything you do. My only guess would be to target you for excessive usage, and tell you to pay more, as in the gimped out features they plan to trickle in for top dollar. Its a real shame they had to take a classic IP and whore it out. Even if there were no server issues, this entire game is fail, and it makes me sick.

i have to say tho, generally speaking, i also had a lot of positive past experiences with EA's customer service (as well as ridiculously dumb ones). But they changed my bf3 russkie to international, they readded my bf2142, bf1942 , bf2 complete edition etc, when i lost the serials (or some of the serials). They refunded my preorder back then from Hellgate and refunded me CnC3, already installed and played online.

I am convinced the game itself is fine but I refuse to buy it because of the drm. I wonder how many sales are lost due to EA's choices versus piracy.
