i think its down to how you play those games though. to me, i would have been a nightmare playing skyrim with a controller because i was an archer, but if i was a stealth character with a knife, then i can see how it could work, or even a sword user.

i can see how dishonored would be fine with a controller though, since the combat is actually kinda simplistic when you fuck up the stealth, and you spend most of your time slowly sneaking anyway.

Let's take Dishonored on Hard mode for instance.

A flick of the wrist with the mouse as opposed to an opposable thumb move on right stick can mean the difference between a body shot and a head shot, can it not?

Or are there those out there with the ability to mimic high precision movements with a controller? Sad I'm not one of them...

His point was that with the analog sticks, you have great control over how fast your character moves (ie use a light pressure on the sticks and the character inches forward) versus the binary nature of keyboards, which makes sense. A valid argument imo.

Started on darksiders 2, its fun! but I keep getting stuck on some white screen in the menu, apparently its a problem with people running over 100+ fps. Damnit!

I totally get it. 3rd person games are sometimes easier played with a controller, regardless of how superior PC is Pffchh its simply more ergonomic for some games.

For example Skyrim kind of needs to be played with M+KB while The Witcher 2 doesn't necessarily have to be.

What is the issue you are having? I am playing it fine with my 360 controller, aside from sensitive turning its been completely fine.

Skyrim was actually better with a controller for me. As a stealth character the sensitivity of the joystick is great since you can control the speed of your character much better. With KB + M it's all or nothing

Same goes with Dishonored and a few other games.

Dishonored Mind Is Full Of Fuck and first person Skyrim too? How does one aim better in a FPS game with a controller as opposed to a mouse?

I've tried and tried and literally no matter what give me a high DPI mouse and I will clear the room faster and with more precision EVERY SINGLE TIME than if I did it with my gamepad. Mouse is awesome for fragging noobs and headshots.

EDIT: It probably boils down to physics, with a mouse you are flicking your wrist to aim whereas with a controller you are using your thumb.

Aiming is not better with a controller but it still work suprinsgly well. Combat too for that matter with a LT = Block or magic and RT with attack. Same thing with Dishonored. Actually i think the combat is even easier in Dishonored with a controller than the default MB + KB setting. Blocking with left ctrl is just terrible by default. Its more fluid with LT - RT on the controller. At least to me. Radial menu for powers ect also work better with the controller. You can see both games were designed with controllers in mind.

But as Chiv said it depends on your type of gameplay. Also depend on the game. I would never play BF3 or Far Cry 3 with a controller for exemple. But with Skyrim and Dishonored and my stealth first approach to both games it works great and makes sneaking more immersive and realistic thanks to the analog joysticks Cool

I already am playing with the controller. Managed to fix the issues by forcing v-sync through nvidia inspector, much better now.

Seriously though, very surprised how fun Darksiders 2 actually is. Wasn't expecting so many side quests and the game to feel as open as it does. Will probably take me a couple of weeks to get through since I can only put in about an hour of gameplay a day Sad

Very fun game!

Finished VTMB, great game btw, felt like a mix of elements from several great classics like Half-Life, Deus Ex, even a bit of Hitman. Those games however (especially HL and DX) are still in a different league.

I'm playing Metro 2033 in Ranger Hardcore mode and I have to agree with people who commented on these forums that it feels like the way it's meant to be played. Found myself last night in the Fascist outpost on the surface running out of filters and choking to death. Had to restart the level and be more efficient and lethal about it Razz Really feels like proper survival!

I also started Bastion today, so far loving the game mechanics and the world it's set in Smile

Playing Bioshock for the first time. Reason I never played was: I never liked the setting. Bioshock 3 got released and that setting actually peaked my interest.

Girlfriend is a Bioshock fan so bought here a pre-order so I would get X-com. She didn't want 1&2 steam keys so I figured I give them a shot before playing 3 (Always have to play the predecessors somehow )

Well it was most annoying that the game crashed shit loads. So was almost giving up on it eventho I enjoyed it. But finally got it fixed and must say the setting doesn't bother me much (I prefer open worlds) and its loads of fun.

Always fun to still have great games in your backlog

And thank god I have something to escape the mediocre dead island (Pretty much playing it to just finish it, most of the game just annoys me ).

Just finished Darksiders 2, clocked in at 20 hours, and took me over 2 weeks to complete.

Great game, seriously. Platforming elements, awesome puzzles, nice combat system, decent story, and game-play was just too fun. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

Going to finish up Ep3 of Tyranny of King Washington and then I'm finally off to complete Far Cry 3 which I've delayed playing for far too long.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

You are playing Guild Wars 2? Wow, didn't expect that Smile

Playing GW2 currently too, but I should slow it down a little so I won't burn out again.

Gothic 1 and 2

I never played them through to the end before, mainly because one of my friends told me Gothic 2 was only '16 hours long'. That sort of put me off. Now that I'm about 30hrs into the 2nd game, I'm fairly certain he's never actually played it Facepalm

Gothic 1 was really good though (I like it better than G2). I loved the whole setting and how much you got to know everyone. While G2 is pretty much on par with it, there doesn't seem to be anyone that you really progress through the story with (though I'm only in chapter 3).

I love being able to enjoy old games like this, because for me it allows me to realise I really do put an emphasis on gameplay over graphics, because they look effing terrible.

I also wish games like The Witcher would at least adopt this form of combat and skill progression. Multiple ways of striking and blocking along with skills that unlock as you learn, it's really rewarding, it genuinely feels like progression.
IT LIVES!
Welcome back, mate Very Happy

Dead Island Riptide and FFV (SNES version ofc).

Dayem Inter, now you're really making me want to reinstall Gothic 1&2.. Razz *must resist*

I need to clear that hideous huge backlog first, it's practically a mission impossible but hopefully I'll have more time in the next weeks. I'm finishing Mars War Log and Riptide at the moment, and then I'll go back to Dark Souls to finally clear those couple of nasty areas left. (without forgetting great time-eater games like Don't Starve and GameDev)

Better than v2, would you say? Gameplay and maps are still the same, isn't it?

I like G1 better than G2 as well, probably because I played it first. Both amazing though.

Just finished Mars: War Logs. I think I'm done with Dont Starve as well, day 50ish I'm bored, been chopping trees for 10 days straight trying to get a tree keeper to spawn.

I will be trying Eador next. And bit of Neverwinter over the weekend. I still have FC3: Blood Dragon, StarDrive, DI: Riptide on my backlog.

Plus need to finish SC2, and play Path Of Exile as I barely started that one.

Also KOTOR2 and Arcanum playthoughs although those I will pause for now.

A lot of stuff Smile
