Afaik, the newer models are not affected by this that much like the first models. The cons are clearly the price and that they slow down if you using too much space. It's said you can't completly fill them up, because then they slow down. IF you have the extra money, get one. Otherwise I agree, the money is more of use if spent for a gfx card(upgrade).

well, about the filling up, HDD are also not meant to be filled up completely. You usually leave at least 5-10% free (alltho with bigger HD sizes, this is probably too much).

Except it's not you saving minutes. It's your PC becoming snappy at everything it does. 95% of all slowdowns during general use of a PC (and I'm including Macs in this, which are even more prone to this) is due to disk I/O. With an SSD, it can handle so many I/Os per second that not only does it boot faster and load applications faster, *everything* is just faster. Everything that has to come from disk is quicker.
And no, a 660 wouldn't be a bigger upgrade overall. For games, yes, but for everything else that 660 does fuck all.

Even early models don't degrade like that. They "degrade" in the sense that instead of 10 years, you get 5 years out of them under heavy use. I dare you to show me a mechanical drive's performance after 5 years and call it "acceptable". An SSD after 5 years will still be fast, let alone acceptable.
My "broken", "bad" and "slow" Vertex 2 is doing mighty fine after 28 months, not a single sign of degradation of any form.

on my config, i5-3570k, 8 gb 1600 mh, hdd spinpoint f3 1 tb, i really dont have any slowdowns, turning windows on off, going to device manager, control panel, firefox, eveything in casual work is snappy, except boot time and loading times in games, offcourse extracting 15 gb game take ages to exctract, but not giving money for 3-4 minutes of faster extracting, i can wait

Like it was already said, people who have used an SSD would hate the idea of going back to a mechanical drive for their OS.
HDD's are the biggest bottleneck in your PC.
Ryzen 5 5600, ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II, Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 32GB 3600MHz C16, MSI RTX 5070 Ti Ventus 3X OC , Corsair RMx Series RM750x. AOC AGON AG324UX - 4K 144Hz 1ms

I couldn't. I worked with the mechanical drive in my MBP for exactly 4 days until I stuffed my Vertex 4 in. Mechanical drives are just excruciatingly slow.

I just realized that OP posted a pun in the title, and no one recognized
