I know the PS3 has 8 cores that run at 3.2Ghz but one core is used for the OS .. so you get 7 cores
this system HAS 3 OS that RUN AT THE SAME TIME ... ALWAYS and one is dedicated from the get GO to the new kinect making it a 5-6 core machine

your right the Cpu does nothing when a developer can't code,
xbox360 has 3 cores, if you play kinect games it only has 2 and yet those game look more stunning then on PS3 a 8 core machine [more like 7 core , 1 core is for OS]
but both of those systems are a different beast
one uses Cpu for graphics and graphics card as a TV scaler/tuner out put [PS3]
the other uses similar architecture that PC uses [xbox360]
but why some games look so horrid ,
ram and multi ports
but now its not about what will look better on PS4 or XBOX ONE , they now both have the same architecture ... one has slower rams but still if some how MS will fuck up the devs to make better versions of the same game on they platform i will |

Just shut up if you don't know what you're talking about. You are utterly clueless and it's getting embarrassing for you.
The number of cores is not comparable even between the 360 and the PS3. They're both PPC, but they're based off different architectures and are both custom chips. The same applies here, even just 2-3 of these cores at 1.6 GHz will match the CPUs in the PS360 just fine. A dual-core Presler CPU (which is an "Extreme Edition" CPU and has hyperthreading, so 4 virtual cores) at 3.46 GHz gets beaten by a Core 2 Duo (no Hyperthreading) at 2.0 GHz. Both Intel, both x86, but both different architectures. Architecture is what determines the speed of a CPU first and foremost.
The example above is also a true story, because I have a Pentium EE 955 in a PC. I also have an E2100. The latter not just keeps up with the former, but even *beats it* in some things. Even in properly threaded tasks. And it does so with less power consumption.
Also, the reason multi-platform games tend to look and run worse on the PS3 is because Cell is much harder to program for. When used properly however, it is more powerful than Xenon. |

And you know why no one has these high-end cards? Because the are not needed. You know why? Because of the console ports of from an 8 year old hardware.
I'm still sporting a 460 over here and all games run perfectly fine. Why would I need an upgrade?
I guarantee the statistics will change after November or whenever the new consoles come out and people will actually be needing new hardware.

You are right, but once xbox one and ps4 games will drop on pc, They will be VERY demanding.
Looks how demanding are some of those 8yo ports mad with 512mb of ram. Now imagine games made with 8gb of ram and 7850 in mind

Ignoring the fact that Steam's HW survey is hardly an indicator (no 7970 in Dec/Jan?  ) even the number of GPUs that are more than capable DX11 GPUs (meaning they can drive anywhere from 720p to 1080p w/ FXAA - or better) is more along the lines of 30-35%. I'm too damn lazy to actually go through the list, but your 12% is the typical bullshit always thrown.
Most of the people with "lesser" and older video cards are just like console gamers, they're fine with turning details down. |

If proper ports are released from PS4/Xbox which require better GPUs, people will just upgrade --> problem solved. The stats don't mean much since like Neon said, you don't really need a good card except for one/two games a year.

Please, go back and read what I wrote. PCs weaker than yours can still run games at lower resolutions with lower resolutions, which is what a LOT of people do. And even then you'd be surprised at how little hardware you need to run at console-level settings. A GTX 580, now two years old, runs BF3 at 1080p w/ FXAA on high at 70-80 FPS or so. Now, drop to 720p (or more likely, 1440x900) and see that shoot up like crazy.
BF3 can be played at 720p30 on something along the lines of a GTS 250 or GTX260 just fine when you turn the details down a bit, which is exactly what a LOT of people do (despite what console gamers think, not every PC gamer wants top settings). That's right, I said GTS 250. That's G92, a 2008 chip - that's the 8800 GT. In fact, those cards are capable of driving the game at 1080p when you turn details down to low. 720p/medium does about 40 FPS or so. And that looks better than the fucking console version. |
