Lets ignore the cloud stuff for this argument and just concentrate on their all-digital game distribution platform.
And let it be said that Microsoft is not picking a fight only with Sony, this goes against Steam too.

This is the most important thing, how will Microsoft ever expect to have sales with prices as low as Steam sales as long as they have a monopolistic position on their own closed system?
Will this competition be cross-platform and drive prices down across all 3 main gaming platforms? (XBL <-> Origin/GoG/DD/Steam etc. <-> PSN)
Or will the following features act as justification for Microsoft to not lower game prices or have any kinds of big sales?
Lets concentrate on these other supposed features and assume the best case that ALL of them will be implemented in Microsofts ecosystem within a year after launch:
- Sharing a game with a friend and maybe even play concurrently
- Trading in games for other games
- Option to give up license of a game and transfer it ONCE
- Selling games digitally to other people
This IS better than steam. But ultimately how big of an advantage will that be?
Its all digital, something that is in flux and can change, both Sony and Gaben could adapt within weeks, or months, can't they?
And poof goes Microsofts great advantage.
Was that worth trying to force change on people and alienating most of them?
Anyone know if there of the same game(s) that launch on both consoles this year so that a comparison can be done by the likes of Digital Foundry or Anandtech.
In talking to a developer who wished to remain anonymous, gamers will see a difference on Day One when they compare third party PS4 games to Xbox One head-to-head.
The developer told me the PS4 is 40 percent more powerful than Xbox One and games like Call of Duty Ghosts will be noticeably different out of the gate.

Jack Tretton also said as much during the interview - ps4 is more powerful and we will see the difference early on 3rd party launch titles.
In addition to being the weaker console Xbone games also have to be coded for a VM that runs on a seperate OS while the PS4 coding goes "directly to the metal".
I wonder how much difference it makes.

What are you trolling for? Infinity Ward said that Ghosts is using an all new engine. It's still built on Quake 3, but it's all new as in, nobody has seen this version before! I think Infinity Ward know what they're talking about, consoltrolltis, Modern Warfare 3 was state of the art after all.

Such comparisons won't be necessary. Right now, the X360 has a practical advantage while the PS3 has a theoretical advantage. It was interesting to see how well developers managed to use the Cell SPEs to compensate for the weaker GPU.
In the next generation, it will be boring. The PS4 will just win before the battle even started. It will be like Xbox vs PS2

It also looks at the PS4 as “Xbox 360 version 2″ due to the lack of social and multi-tasking features. The company doesn’t even see Sony as a threat. Even better, it believes that the PS4′s graphics RAM will run hotter, besides not being as optimized as the Xbox One.
