660ti , 3750k @ 4.3ghz, 8gb ram, SSD

game runs smooth on extreme.

Maybe those with poor performance have a bottleneck somewhere ?

Could be a HDD bottleneck then but that should have affected loading times and such, not immediate game performance?

Well I did a comparison and the "extreme" preset does skip a few options thus the better performance. Smile

EDIT:
zmed wrote:

That setting for one, though that does really hit performance unless you have 2.5 - 3 GB of VRAM, works fine here since I have a 3 GB 7970.
(In return the textures look much better.)

DOF for another, it's actually disabled whereas "high" uses a DX11 compute shader which is pretty taxing.

Vignette is disabled too but that shouldn't affect performance, it's just a personal preference.

Anisotropic filtering is also set to 2x instead of the full 16x
(Makes no difference here since I enforce 16x always anyway.)

(Anti aliasing is set to on however which enables MLAA which can be a bit blurry like FXAA or also SMAA via third party injectors, no idea why they skipped MSAA since Shogun 2 supports it.)

Finally alpha smoothing is disabled but that's a very high-end option so it makes sense to leave it for custom presets.

So... I upgraded my monitor, to a 1080p BenQ. Ran a 1920x1080 benchmark with the same settings as my 1680x1050 set-up. Same average frame-rate (47fps). Flicked the "Unlimited VRAM" option on. Same average frame-rate.

Ummm... Okay? Yey, I suppose?

Weirdo. As long as I was sticking to Great Britain I didn't have any FPS drops when selecting army on the campaign map. Moved to the continent and BAM - fps drops when I select one of my armies, lol.
Besides, I feel like the game is more fluid and I have more FPS in battles then on the strategic map, lol... Time to install fraps and get some proof Smile

First Total War: ROME II Update this Friday.

At Creative Assembly we are very pleased with the response to ROME II, with hundreds of thousands of players enjoying the game so far; but we do know that, as with all large PC releases, the variety of hardware and general system specifications can cause issues for some people and we are urgently working to help get them the right experience.

As announced last month, we are also planning to tweak the balancing, AI routines and other features now that we’re getting real-time metric feedback from thousands of players.

The result is that the first update to the game will drop this Friday, with the intention to update the game on a weekly basis in the immediate future.

Full patch notes will be available on Friday, but the update will address known instances of crashes due to hardware conflicts alongside several other performance fixes.

In addition, anyone experiencing graphical issues including low resolution textures, should check our support forums at www.totalwar.com/rome2support which contain suggestions for settings which will improve visuals in almost all cases.

There are also a variety of other fixes suggested in our support forum, please head there to find out more or report your own problem directly to the CA team who will assist you.

WTF every game they release it non finished I dunno, I bought shogun 2 i would never buy another game of theirs. Add in all the shitty DLC you wanna buy to get full game and it takes 6-9 months before the game is even finished after release , its total waste of money.

I get ok FPS with haswell i5 and 770gtx, 20-60 I guess playable, but the AI is terrible and I get random black screens.

get use to it thats nextgen
i would rather have one game which is supported for two years with fixes and content where i can spend so much hours than 6h game with fprced MP with no post release support

I've played three different campaigns and each one crashed on turn 12. Confused

I´m just not getting it?! What´s the problem here?

1. My hardware combination is a general failure? No problems with other games so prolly no?!
2. The game is unoptimized shit but why haven´t you any problems
3. or your definition of "smooth" is outta world... IMHO this is a general problem but there is much space between smooth and 8-9 fps (no matter campaign map or battles).

What do you mean by ancient hardware? I have a Core 2 Quad Q9400 at 3200 MHz and 8 Gigs of Ram plus a samsung SSD and a GTX 580 with 3GB so it´s not up to date I know that but I wouldn´t call it ancient Confused Everything runs on "high" without the special stuff (alpha and shit). AA is turned on because it makes no difference on the 3GB version.

I mean it runs like shit. Stuttering, lags and very low fps... Other games are running capped at vsync (60)?

EDIT: I just got a boost from 38 to 45 fps in benchmark for turning my pre rendered frames from 2 to 1 and to correct myself: My settings are on very high not high

I think I'm right in saying you should use Shogun 2 as a general benchmark. Core 2 Quad might be causing a bottleneck for your video card, so your system is maxing out on the CPU not the GPU. A mixture of V High and Extreme settings at 1920 should be ok I would of thought with slight slow downs in heavy battle scenes. Could be talking crap of course, just a thought.

your link is " we are looking into " that isn't remotely close to " soon " this is aaa game, we should had profile 2 months ago, heck I remember games where we would get sli bits/profiles in january/february for sep/oct release games, a half year before, this should been same,

My C2Q is certainly bottlenecking my gpu for this particular game, but even then, I'm getting an average of 45 fps with some occasional dips to 24-30, with most settings on "Very High" (shadows on "High") 16x AF, and SSAO enabled. Also, I disabled the hideous AA and am using my custom SweetFx settings. Game looks pretty good, though I wouldn't know if it doesn't look as good as Shogun 2.

Doesn't matter what settings i have the ground looks like shit... i did the low texture thingy in the ini , the rest of textures work fine (units/buildings/etc) but the ground looks like crap even on extreme Neutral also shitty AA Sad And the optimization....i don't have words to describe it

I'm damn disappointed about the launch so far Sad

So I spent 4hrs tonight formatting my machine tonight, fresh install of Windows, installed it on the faster SSD, latest drivers for everything, enabled SLI

Guess what? Same old.

It's a shame because I really like it, but what an unoptimized piece of shit. Even if I put everything on high/very high with no AA it still dips FFS.

Optimisation needs to work at both ends of the scale. I guess, like with COH2, I wait for a miracle patch/drivers.

Formatting is really a myth, especially if one upkeeps their PC. Just like having to remove old driver, clean using some crap driver clean up tools, restarting 3 times, dancing around the fire praying to gods and only then installing another driver.
