Yup, that will be fine. I used to run my 360 at 1680 via VGA and the scaling was really nice, a lot better than trying to force my monitor into a non-native output. Nowadays I just use the stock 1080 and let the 360 scale it itself.

I am using bigben vga cable, so its a good cable. not some scammy cheap cable Wink

And for sound, I have little headphone amp which I got with sound blaster tactic360 headphones. direct sound form that bigben vga cable is low.
I am not using those headphones tho. Now I have creative aurvana live and they work very well witht that amp

For me it's the official VGA cable and the audio either runs through my PC's soundcard (and into my Creative Arena headset) or if I'm playing on TV and not the PC, the phono cables connect direct to our stereo Very Happy Nothing fancy, but everything works great.

arena seems good. I had fatality mkii and those are actually same design as arena. were very comfortable and very bassy. almost too mu.
then had tactic360 sigma. worst sq of 3. good comfort. additional amp for 360.

now creative aurvana live. Most balance, nice bass, good positioning and comfortable Smile
using with xonar dg on pc btw. love listening to music :d

Dell monitors dont have hdmi. They have vga, dvi and displayport.

dvi is taken by my pc. I have a spare hdmi -> dvi cable for 360 but I would have to connect pc via displayport cable which I dont have

You can use hdmi splitter for audio, that's what I use. The problem with VGA is it's crap and is susceptible to signal noise which can make shit fuzzy. The higher the resolution, the more the noise interferes. With 1080p it's really noticeable compared to clean digital input.
